Description

This beautifully presented four bedroom townhouse occupies an end-of-terrace position and boasts one of the larger garden plots on the terraced row. However, the terraces might have been a different story. I’m sure some would have been better maintained by their owners than others, but they would have been a class above courts. Still, I think the view was that the buildings that would replace all this housing would be better. We now know that the situation would not be so simple. The houses in that area were largely built in the late 18th – early 19th centuries, and they included the notorious court houses as well as terraces. I’m certain that the demolition and clearance projects were more enthusiastic than they needed to be, as it was the 1960s and I think many things seemed possible in the new future that was promised! I think the state of the buildings would have varied, but I’m sure the authorities didn’t consider anything other than large scale demolition. Edwin (Ted) Street (1891-1975), ice-cream manufacturer, was born on 8 August 1891 at Corrimal, New South Wales, youngest of ten children of Staffordshire-born parents James Street, miner, and his wife Ann, née Cooper. By 1914 Ted and his brothers had established a farm at Leeton. There he met Daisy Olive Grigg, a farmer's daughter from Western Australia, whom he was to marry in the Leeton Methodist Church on 7 June 1921. They had no children. For inspections of providers of childcare on domestic premises that operate regularly, we will carry out an unannounced inspection.

Hard working, innovative, domineering and argumentative, Street nonetheless inspired great loyalty. He was square jawed, brown eyed and dark haired, and despite his growing wealth, retained the common touch. Driven to work in a Holden 'ute', and shunning ostentation, Street devoted himself to business and continued to live at Corrimal. His wife was of similar disposition, working long hours in the factory, taking an intense interest in the welfare of the female factory workers and rarely bothering to lighten domestic chores with modern household appliances. Arranged over three floors the property is beautifully designed to a contemporary aesthetic and includes all the modern conveniences and luxuries expected of a recently built home. The high standard of finish is immediately apparent upon entry, having been upgraded by the current vendors, including hardwood flooring. The property also provides peace of mind with the remainder of the NHBC certificate.
