Description

Like other mobile broadband devices, the EE 4G WiFi is a compact gadget that’s designed to be small and light enough to carry around with you. It’s battery-powered so it doesn’t need plugging in, meaning you can use it even when outside or on a train, and it will beam out a 4G-powered Wi-Fi network that nearby devices can connect to.

The EE 4G WiFi can get up to 32 devices online. That’s in line with many rival products (some of which will be discussed below under the ‘Alternatives’ heading), and more than some. It should also be more than enough for most situations where mobile broadband is needed. This being a mobile broadband router it also has a battery, specifically a 6,460mAh one. While that’s not the biggest battery we’ve ever seen in a mobile broadband device, it is significantly bigger than most smartphone batteries, so it will last longer than using your phone to tether would, especially as providing a Wi-Fi network is all this does, while your phone will be doing lots of other things too. Available to customers on an eligible EE Broadband Plan. Prioritises online traffic in the home by category, work mode and game mode. Network monitor, ping optimiser and Geo-Filter options. EE ID required. Will not work if you are connected to the 4G network using Hybrid Connect. Not all games/apps supported. Does not prioritise specific games or apps. For personal and non-commercial use. See ee.co.uk/terms.If you don’t need 5G then you could consider the EE 4G WiFi, which is a 4G alternative to the 5G WiFi. So data speeds won’t be as high here, and this tops out at 32 simultaneous connections. But it still has a 30-metre Wi-Fi range, and it’s available on cheaper plans. EE Smart 5G Hub The Vodafone 5G Mobile Hotspot is of course Vodafone’s rival device, and this has a 2.4-inch touchscreen but supports fewer connections, at 32. Still, Vodafone’s pricing also tends to be lower at the time of writing. EE 4G WiFi If you just want internet for your home or another location that has a power supply available then you could consider the EE Smart 4G Hub instead. This doesn’t have a battery as it’s designed to provide 4G home broadband, so it’s meant to stay plugged in and switched on at all times. But there’s nothing to stop you bringing it with you when you go elsewhere – you’ll just need a power supply to use it. Conclusion The EE 4G WiFi is available on both 1-month and 24-month plans, so you can choose whether you want a short term plan with no commitment or whether you’re likely to hold onto the device for a long time – in which case a 24-month plan is a good option, as these cost less per month and nothing upfront.

Still, this should be fast enough for most use cases, and being on EE is to its benefit, as EE is the UK’s fastest 4G network going by most third-party test results. Router features The other main feature of the EE 4G WiFi is its battery, which is quite small at 2,150mAh, but that should still be good for around 6 hours of life, so this can you see through a long journey or most of a day out. Plans And even if there is Wi-Fi available, the EE 4G WiFi can make for a better choice than public Wi-Fi, as it’s guaranteed to be more secure, potentially faster, and doesn’t make you register or pay like some public Wi-Fi does. Pay As You Go: Get access to our 3G and 4G networks. Pre-loaded data allowance last 30 days, 90 days or until you have used the data. Allowances don’t roll over. Once you’ve reached your data allowance, you will need to buy a new data add-on. UK use only. Personal use only. Subject to availability.I am happy with the service, my only problem is if Vodafone and three merge, I hate Vodafone, so if it happens they will lose me as a customer when my 12 months is up The Netgear Nighthawk M6 is another 5G mobile broadband device, but this one is available on O2. The main difference here is simply the network, and on that front EE is likely to beat O2 for most people, both in terms of coverage and speeds. But the Nighthawk M6 is a strong device, with a 2.4-inch touchscreen to make operating and monitoring it easy. The EE 5G WiFi stands out from many rival mobile broadband devices by supporting 64 simultaneous connections, and by being available on one of the UK’s best 5G networks. None of this is specific to the EE 5G WiFi, but as noted it’s EE’s network that will be the biggest factor in terms of performance, so you can expect results along these lines. Router features This also all makes the EE 4G WiFi potentially faster than standard fibre broadband, but nowhere near as fast as full fibre (also known as fibre to the premises) or as 5G, both of which offer peak speeds of around 1Gbps.

So it’s a powerful alternative to public Wi-Fi or tethering, allowing you to get your laptop, tablet, or whatever else you have with you connected to the internet even when there’s otherwise no Wi-Fi available. Beyond that, the EE 5G WiFi also benefits from Wi-Fi 6, which EE claims will aid its efficiency in high-bandwidth situations.

haha, Many years agao I had a 3 skype, in fact I have just seen it in a drawer, it made by a company called amoi and the model number is wps1, I think we are looking at around 12 years ago, I got it for the Skype part. Now that was the only time I have been on the Three network until I went onto smarty in 2020 and I don’t think I was on it for long, that was on a PAYG system. Three was awful then.

The Three 4G Plus MiFi is a very similar device to the EE 4G WiFi, but of course it’s on Three’s network instead. It’s compact and has peak speeds of up to 300Mbps (though real world speeds are likely to be similar to EE’s offering). However, it supports half as many simultaneous connections at 16 – it is typically a lot cheaper though. Vodafone 4G Mobile Hotspot NO.1 5G NETWORK: based on analysis of 5G speed, reliability, and availability data collected by RootMetrics® in Jan-Jun 2020. Tested at locations across the UK with the best commercially available smartphones on 4 national mobile networks across all available network types. Your experiences may vary. Not an endorsement of EE. Visit ROOTMETRICS.CO.UK for more details. If you want to be on EE’s network but are looking for an alternative then consider the EE 5G WiFi. This is an even better device with far higher speeds (as it can tap into 5G), as well as a larger, longer-lasting battery. But it’s priced accordingly. EE Smart 4G Hub The same Opensignal results as above also found that EE’s average 5G upload speeds were 16.9Mbps, which again is second only to Three (and a very close second).

Get online when you’re out and about

If you just need to bring 5G to one location and there’s access to power there, you’d probably be better off with a 5G home broadband device like the EE Smart 5G Hub. This doesn’t have a battery so it needs plugging in, but it’s similarly fast, and designed to be left on 24/7. It also supports 64 simultaneous connections and has two Ethernet ports. Conclusion
