It’s my first Thanksgiving since moving over to London to expand STAT’s European coverage, but never fear, a Thanksgiving feast will be had on Thursday. (A reminder: It’s not too early to get started on some prep. I made my pie crusts over the weekend and they will hang in the freezer for a few days. Also, have you considered how long it takes to thaw your turkey?) Wishing those of you celebrating this week, wherever you are, a happy holiday, and even if the big day comes around but once a year, it never hurts to remind yourself what it is you’re grateful for. Cheers! Work began on the M2 in the mid-1960s to support the congestion which overpowered the A2 through the Medway Towns. There are only seven junctions on the M2. Making up just 25 miles of the 62-mile bypass, the M2 is still regarded as an important network for the population in this corner of the UK. Interestingly, the A13 is a trunk road between Central London and Tilbury, then a primary route between Tilbury and Sadlers Farm and a non-primary route onwards to Shoeburyness. This project will widen the A13 from two to three lanes in both directions between in the A128 and the A1014. The new section of road will then join the existing three-lane section of the A13 providing a continuous three-lane road between the M25 and Stanford-le-Hope. All works are planned to be completed in autumn 2020.

Between junction 4 and junction 5 has been known to be challenging. This may be because of the complexity of the looping A249 interchange, which connects onto the M2 at junction 5. Build up can be caused due to the dramatic turn on and off the A249 slip road. Take care and be aware of cars joining the M2 in this area. This project is undertaking a programme of remedial works and is currently planned to continue until September 2019. The windowpane appeared to have slipped down," the report reads. Junction 5 - This junction is the first main connection crossed by the A249 which is the main route on and off the Isle of Sheppey. With this, junction 5 sees heavy traffic with commuters coming off the island and heading into the surrounding cities. This area has been known to be an accident hotspot so do take extra care, but there are plans to improve congestion.

The history of the A13 pre-dates the 1922 roads list and the latest grade-separation on the road was completed in 2013. The route once began at Aldgate Pump which is a historic water pump located at the Aldgate-Fenchurch Street-Leadenhall Street junction. A consultation in February 2018 asked questions about the speed limit for the stretch where the M25 junction 30 connects with the A13 corridor. The suggested reduction of the speed limit was for safety reasons and to offset the increased likelihood of potential collisions. Due to the volume of traffic, both lorries and smaller vehicles, this area is known for traffic incidents. This may be because the road naturally curves against the flow of traffic and if you’re not used to this route you could be caught off guard. On the approach to junction 7 make sure you create enough space between you and the car in front in case of sharp breaking. Any route starting in Central London will be a busy one, but the A13 also shares junctions with many important A roads including the A11 and A12 and also a motorway in the M25.
