The best way to learn pan pastel painting is by simply experimenting with different supplies until you find what works best for your style! Don’t hesitate on asking fellow artists if there are any techniques you don’t know about because there’s a lot to learn! Pan Pastels Tutorial: Creating a Landscape They succeeded in creating a new method of presenting pastels and developed a suite of tools to tease the best possible results from their product. Each colour is loaded with the finest quality artists’ pigments for the most concentrated colours possible. The colours have excellent lightfastness and are fully erasable. Pan Pastels are a great choice for painters working in oils and acrylics. They provide the paint texture and color saturation of an oil or acrylic without any drying time, mess, or hazard to your health. You can easily add more layers over dried areas with little consequence because you don’t have to wait days before applying another layer.

Chosen for their natural, versatile tones and tints, the 10 colours included are ideal for the soft layers needed to create the distinctive shapes and textures of a range of animal furs. Have you tried using Pan Pastels before? What are your thoughts on this project and what you think about Pan Pastels? I would also love to hear if you have done some goal planning for the next year. Have a fantastic New Year’s Day and I hope that that the days and months ahead bring many good things to your life! Project Supply List To apply the pastel from the plastic compact onto your surface, you’ll need to use a tool. Pan Pastels recommend their SOFFT Tool Blending Knives and Sponges. But as an alternative, you can use any soft – sponge item such as makeup sponges and foam-tipped eyeshadow applicators. All of these professional quality colours are highly pigmented, have excellent lightfastness and are fully erasable.

If you’re a beginner to an advanced artist looking for a versatile set of paints that can be easily transported and used on location, then pan pastels are a perfect choice. They are a great way to create beautiful, vibrant portraits and landscapes. They’re also really easy to use!

The first thing you’ll need to do is a pencil sketch of the landscape. This can be done with a regular graphite pencil on paper or through digital drawing software if that’s your preference! If you want your art piece to have more texture then gently press the brush into the surface before applying two coats instead of one. This is especially helpful when applying pan pastel over acrylics as they only require one coat but many artists find that double coating works better than single coating so experiment! You’ll know which method works best for you after a few paintings. All discounts against RRP are made against the United Kingdom Recommended Retail Price (RRP). Unless specified, offers and vouchers are not valid on products which are already discounted from RRP, gift vouchers, books and from the I LOVE ART range. If you’re interested in trying out these versatile art supplies but don’t know where to start (or what you need), then keep reading! Decant the contents of the broken PanPastel into the food bag, close it up and take a large spoon, rolling pin or another blunt object with a broad, smooth edge and proceed to crush the pastel remnants into a finer powder. Smaller is faster but harder to get small detail. If you like tiny tiny detail, you may want to work larger to make it easier to capture in your work. Larger work takes longer though, so if you don’t want to spend as long you can work smaller and focus on your lighting/contrast more than detail to still create a great painting.

It is clear to see PanPastels have not only made their mark on the art world but are clearly here to stay. They filled the gaps between paints and pastels and for many artists they have become mainstays of their toolbox. If you are interested in pastels and have not given them a shot yet then we cannot recommend PanPastels enough, they will without a doubt change the way you think about pastels once you have given them a go. Pan pastels are applied to paper or other surfaces in the same way oil paints and acrylics are. The only difference is that you’ll need more color pigment for pan pastel art supplies since colors come from individual pans. Selection of pastels paper and card pads, tubes of gouache, pastel ground and a can of fixative gives you an example of the multitude of materials you can combine PanPatels with. They consist of a mixture of pigments, binders, and fillers that can be applied to surfaces such as paper or canvas with brushes or fingers.

Painting with pan pastels requires very little prep work compared to other types of art projects; there’s no need for messy gesso priming or sandpaper surface preparation. PanPastels are a superb medium to explore with just a handful of colours and some paper but with a few clever choices and techniques you will increase the versatility of your materials tenfold. We will share a few things to help you get the most out of working with PanPastels which will help you get the most out of them. Another great aspect about their composition is how resistant they are against the light (despite being an oil-based paint!). If you expose your painting under direct sunlight or even fluorescent lighting, there will be no fading at all over time! Opacity PanPastel Colors were developed so that artists can easily lift, apply and control pastel colour, just like true painting! The pan format holds the colour like paint for easy application. The PanPastel Colourless Blender can be used to increase transparency without changing the hue of the pigment. The Colourless Blender can be used before the colour is applied to the paper or mixed with the colour after it has been applied.

PanPastel Ultra Soft Artist Pastels are the worlds first range of pastel colours that can be applied and mixed like paint. Each colour is loaded with artist pigments and are a professional quality. Pan pastels have a few characteristics that separate them from other types of paints. Most importantly, these unique features are what make pan pastel such a versatile medium for artists! Performance Loaded with the highest quality artists' pigments; PanPastel Colors are made using a unique manufacturing process requiring minimal binder and fillers, resulting in a rich, ultra soft and low dust formulation.I love the look of soft pastels, but I HATE the feel of them on my hands. I can’t work with them. Colored pencils over pan pastels on sanded paper look nearly identical though! I prefer Polychromos for softer blending. Higher wax content pencils aren’t as soft to blend out. These will mix with a pan pastel base layer and allow you to get fine detail with your pan pastel work! I use my higher wax content pencils like Caran d’Ache Luminance over areas I don’t want to smudge out as much. In this one I used a white Caran d’Ache Pablo for smaller detail. Tip #7 Contrast Each color comes from its own individual pan — instead of being preloaded into one tube — it’s easy to take pan pastel painting on the go. All you need is a small travel palette and some paper to get started! Keep in mind that it’s best if the paper or canvas underneath isn’t too textured since this can get messy when applying pan pastel paints onto them! The smoother the surface, the better chance of achieving desired blend effect without having to go over multiple layers and wasting time correcting mistakes along the way. Pan pastels are the perfect choice for portrait painting due to their high opacity and rich, opaque color. You don’t have to worry about your layers underneath peeking through at all! Pigmentation The last step is to add in a phrase and journaling. I used the phrase “New Beginnings” in honor of New Year’s Day. Using a Sakura Gelli pen, I will write my goals in the blue pace at the top of my project. I suggest using a ball point Gelli pen on top of the Pan Pastels. Other styles of pens with absorbent tips often clog on this type of surface. New Beginnings and New Year’s Resolutions
