From 7 to 11 November 2022 Coles guest hosted Channel 4's game show Countdown as part of its 40th anniversary celebrations. Coles moved to Friston, East Sussex in May 2022 to be closer to his friend and former manager Lorna Gradden. He said "I'll be living in a charming 18th-century cottage with a bow window that looms over the street affording a privileged view of my neighbours' comings and goings, as the scent of lavender floats across the village green." [55] [56] Legal issues [ edit ] In November 1990, Somerville's greatest-hits album The Singles Collection 1984/1990 (which featured his hits with Bronski Beat and The Communards in addition to his own material) was released; it reached number 4 on the UK Album Chart. It included a reggae cover of the Bee Gees' hit song " To Love Somebody", which also reached the UK Top 10. Also in 1990, Somerville contributed the song " From This Moment On" to the Cole Porter tribute album Red Hot + Blue produced by the Red Hot Organization, the proceeds from which benefited AIDS research.

The band had their first UK top 30 hit in 1985 with the piano-based number 30 single "You Are My World". [6] The following year, they had their biggest hit with an energetic hi-NRG [7] cover version of Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes' soul classic " Don't Leave Me This Way" (in a version inspired by Thelma Houston's cover) which spent four weeks at number one and became the UK's biggest selling single of 1986. [8] It also made the US top 40. It featured Sarah Jane Morris as co-vocalist, taking advantage of the contrast between Morris' deep and rounded contralto and Somerville's soaring falsetto.
