Kingspan discontinued the Watchman Niveau in 2007, and the batteries/power tubes were discontinued a few years ago. The Watchman Sonic or Watchman Alarm are a much more modern and reliable alternative which also uses a standard lithium-cell battery making it much more cost effective. The Watchman Sonic and Watchman Alarm both fit as a direct replacement for the Watchman Niveau. Replace the battery as detailed above. The Varta CR2430 is the standard coin battery for these gauges. Watchman Sonic Advanced

A Watchman is an automated heating oil tank gauge which is fitted in your heating oil tank and sends a radio signal to a digital readout in your home. This allows you to easily monitor the heating oil levels in your tank and prevent run outs. If the gauge inside your tank has failed or needs replacing, don't worry — it is possible to replace it if you are careful. To replace a float gauge, you will need a replacement gauge, oil lubricant, a wrench, wire and a torch. Use lubricant on the tank cap to loosen it, before turning it carefully with a wrench. Be careful not to ruin the threads. Find the end of the old float gauge arm and pull it from the oil tank with a piece of wire. You may need a torch to see what you’re doing. Remove the gauge from the gauge pipe and place the new gauge inside. Re-insert the gauge and gauge pipe into the oil tank and close the lid.

Using a cross point screwdriver, undo the four screws located under the main body of the transmitter If neither of these steps clears the error after refitting the disc and waiting for the gauge to send a new signal, it is possible that the gauge has been installed incorrectly.Unscrew the green transmitter disc (or red if it is an alarm) from the top of the oil tank.
