Description

It allows for a more robust, fuller flavor than most paper filters provide. However, it also provides a cleaner cup, as the cloth strains out more sediment.

Make sure your recipe or ratio of coffee to water is right. I usually use 30g of coffee with about 500ml of water, or 20g of coffee and 300-350ml of hot water for a large strong cup. As a general rule, a good coffee ratio to use for this method is 1:15 (one part coffee to 15 parts water). So to calculate, simply divide the volume of the cafetière (or of your desired end volume) by 15 to give you the coffee dose. For example, if you are using a large eight-cup French press that holds about 1 litre, use 67g coffee. AeroPress paper filters will give you a nice, clean cup of coffee with very little sediment if there’s any at all. But that also means a lot of coffee particles and rather concerning coffee oils like diterpenes are more likely to slip through the filters into your cup of Joe. Effortlessly brew full-bodied coffee with enhanced taste. Our dual filtration strainer and vacuum-layered body allows for reduced sediment, increased sweetness and serving at optimum temperatures.

Our Food

Metal lasts longer and is cheaper in the long term, and leaves a heavier, richer flavor, but it requires more cleaning and may allow sediment through for less clarity in the brew.

Unhelpfully, the branded metal filter is also designed with decorative elements - a pattern of curved metal lines and a pointless Aeropress logo which interrupt the mesh and thereby make it impossible to achieve a totally even extraction. This is beginning to feel like something that has been created as a desirable accessory rather than a tool to maximise your chances of making an amazing coffee! To add insult to injury the Aeropress-branded filter is marginally more expensive than the Concetto. If I'm honest it feels more comfortable supporting the upstart Scottish company, who imagined a different way of enjoying a classic brewer and made it work before the big guys decided to do it for themselves. These are made of a special blend of mineral treated paper, and whitened with a non-chlorine process. However, cloth ones require the most cleaning of all three types of AeroPress filters. So if ease of cleaning is your priority, you can just skip the AeroPress cloth filter. SIMPLE LIVING. SUSTAINABLE COFFEE DRINKING – Save on 1000s of paper filters and contribute to a greener planet.Like the AMEUUS filter, they’re engineered to let through maximum coffee oil, and little to no coffee sediment. In contrast to the 'Fine' disc and the Aeropress own-brand version, the Concetto Superfine disc is specifically suited to making a longer 200 ml drink, and as a good starting point I would recommend the second recipe below (it's a nice way to highlight our other current Colombian coffee, San Sebastian. It's a much gentler hit than the face-melter above, but has delicious tangerine flavour, delicate acidity and a chocolatey sweetness). With this technique you are swapping out the paper filter for a metal version, but not having to adapt your usual Aeropress technique too much in doing so. You do, however, have to use the 'inverted' method described above. The result will be a different experience, giving a more full-bodied drink with wilder flavours than the paper allows, but sacrificing the 'clarity' that many coffee lovers crave. It might blow you away and you'll never use another paper filter again, or you might find that it's an alternative take that complements the brews you are used to. Either way, I still like the idea of making lots of tiny, sustainable changes that might accumulate into something more meaningful. This makes it rather similar to a cup of French Press coffee. While all metal and fabric filters can be considered Ecological because they’re reusable, but there are some paper filters that are fairly good for the environment as well. In summary I would say the Aeropress metal filter is good at one thing, and perhaps one thing only - the recipe that I recommended in my earlier post. Even then, the Concetto Fine disc will do this job even better! Make two large or three small espresso style cups. Can also be used as a tea press or alternatively a serving jug, simply remove the plunger. 24oz / 680ml capacity. Environment (Sustainability): Based on eco-friendliness, metal filters come out as the clear winners. Sure, paper filters can be composted—but how many of you living in a city find that practical? Additionally, many paper filters (like those included with the AeroPress) are bleached using chemicals. These filters are engineered to let every drop of coffee oil through, without letting any of the grounds through. If you’re looking for less sediment in your coffee, then you may want to choose one of the following filters: They’re theoretically indestructible, and can even be rolled or folded, though it’s not recommended. Ideally you want your water to be just off the boil, around 93-96C. Using a thermometer or temperature-controlled kettle lets you set the temperature exactly, but if using a regular kettle, boil the water and open the lid for about 30 seconds to a minute to let it cool down before using.
