Description

The G-RAID 2 is populated with two Enterprise-Class, 7200RPM Ultrastar hard drives for all your demanding workloads and mission-critical content. Hardware RAID Options For information on changing RAID settings, please refer to Answer ID 30547: Configure G-RAID SHUTTLE Disk Array (RAID). The G-RAID Studio is configured as RAID 0 out of the box, but you can switch to RAID 1 or JBOD using the free configuration utility. In RAID 0 on a Mac, formatted with the Mac OS Extended file system, it wrote large files at a rapid 312MB/s and read them at an identical speed. Small files were understandably tougher, but the drive still managed to produce 272MB/s write speeds and 272MB/s read speeds. It also impressed in our new extra-large file transfer test, which uses a mammoth 6GB video file; the G-RAID Studio both wrote and read this file at 323MB/s. With dual Thunderbolt 3 ports, you can conveniently daisy chain up to 5 additional devices, keeping you connected to multiple drives, 4K displays, and more, through a single connection to your computer. With support for up to 85 watts of USB Power Delivery through the USB-C™ port, this drive can charge your compatible MacBook or MacBook Pro without having to take a separate MacBook charger out of your bag.

For balanced performance, G-RAID SHUTTLE 8 comes ready to go in RAID 5. Or, select RAID 0, 1, 6, 10, 50, 60 or JBOD for ultimate flexibility. The real reason you might be willing to shell out this kind of money for an external drive (along with paying more for a cable and probably upgrading your motherboard to get a Thunderbolt port) is the speed. The G RAID with Thunderbolt had better be fast, right? With capacities from 8TB SSD – 32TB of high performance solid state storage, you’ll always be able to transfer your critical 4K, 8K, VR, high dynamic range (HDR) and high frame rate (HFR) footage in a single location.

JBOD– No RAID functionality. Both disks will show up separately on the desktop and can be used independently.HD USB-C™ Like any Thunderbolt product worth its salt, it comes with two ports so you can connect it to other devices in a daisy-chain. Sadly it doesn't come with a Thunderbolt cable, so you'll have to buy one before you can use it. A minor inconvenience maybe, but unlike USB, Thunderbolt hasn't been around long enough for us to have a drawer full of spare cables.
