True Romance: Limited Edition** (UK only Zavvi-exclusive Steelbook) ( US via Zavvi/ UK via Zavvi) – 7/19/21 – N4K, DV War changed a generation. Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando) approached the business through thoughtful considerations, always seeking to defuse rather than inflame. A brutal man, but never without thinking of possible repercussions. His son, after defeating Germany and Japan, sees himself as invincible. Vito resisted business changes that included illicit drugs; Michael finds the potential profits intoxicating, and anyone holding him from his new American ideal an enemy. Dune (1984) (Steelbook) ( Germany) – 10/14/21 (delayed from 8/26 – licensed from Universal) – N4K, DV Often imitated yet never equaled, Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather Trilogy rightly belongs in the library of any serious student of cinema. Paramount’s new 4K release represents these films well indeed, with the best video quality on any home format to date, along with a wealth of new and legacy special features. This may well end up being regarded as the best UHD release of the year. It’s not only highly recommended, it’s not to be missed.

The Godfather: English, English SDH†,Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, Norwegian, Portuguese - Brazilian, Spanish - Castilian, Spanish - Latin American, Swedish The way Coppola and his actors approach performance brings up the controversy of Sofia Coppola’s casting as Michael’s doomed daughter, Mary. Her line readings are sometimes flat, and at other times awkward. But in contrast to the other players, she’s startlingly pure, her unseasoned candor making her tragic function in the story more heart-wrenching. There’s an unexpected feeling of truth as she delivers her last line (“Dad?”) on the steps outside the opera house, breaking up the theatrical masquerade over which Michael has presided. Coppola gives his tragedy a twist that goes beyond King Lear, one of his film’s models. Michael, unlike Lear weeping at the death of his beloved Cordelia, doesn’t die of grief. Rather, it’s implied that he lingers on for years, alone in the company of despair and sorrow.Remastered and restored in 4K UHD with HDR-10 and Dolby Vision, this collection includes Best Picture Oscar®* winners for Best Picture The Godfather and The Godfather Part II, alongside the acclaimed conclusion Mario Puzo's The Godfather Coda: The Death Of Michael Corleone. Bonus discs include both the Theatrical and 1991 cuts of The Godfather Part III, as well as a special features Blu-ray featuring all-new content. Throughout, Michael’s spiritual entropy is intercut with Vito’s ascendancy 30 years earlier, and while both men act to preserve their families, it’s telling how Coppola contrasts the father’s warmth with the son’s sclerotic obtuseness (ironically akin to the patriarchs with whom Vito does battle). By the end, Vito’s power is secured, his fall into criminality established as the means by which he protects his family. Michael also secures his power, but at the cost of his brother Fredo’s life, as the latter unwittingly betrayed Michael by colluding with Roth.

Deep Red (Profondo Rosso – Arte Original Arrow Store Exclusive Limited Edition) (US/UK) – 10/25/21 – N4KThe three Godfather films look beyond amazing and mere words can do little to express the level of work, care, and love that went into Reality and performance grandly intersect throughout the film, with the actors suggesting characters in an opera. Take the the grandiose gesturing between Shire’s Connie and volatile Corleone heir Vincent (Andy Garcia) as he takes her hand with gusto and kisses it. Or the “bella figura” Gotti-like Joey Zasa (Joe Mantegna) and how he loves to cavort in front of photographers and reporters, contributing to the spectacle of himself.

Fear and Desire (1952) (includes Flying Padre, Day of the Right & The Seafarers) (US/UK) – Coming soon, confirmed by KLSC – N4K, DV The WCG and Dolby Vision HDR bring out the natural aesthetic of the colouring, from skin tones to the lush greens of vegetation to the vivid reds of flowers, robes and Vatican wall coverings. Colours are rich and vibrant but maintain a natural elegance. Tropic Thunder* (2008) (includes Theatrical in 4K & Director's Cut on BD) ( US/UK) – 10/18/22 – REVIEW – N4K, DV enhanced in the improvements to stability and accuracy; the film has never looed better. Add in that the image is free of both source and encode

Bayonetta | Hideki Kamiya had nine-game saga planned, which he will take "to the grave"

A Look Inside (73.5 minutes): This is a nice meaty making-of from 1990 that focuses mostly on the first two movies, with the third film viewed through rose-colored glasses since its release was imminent at the time. There’s plenty of behind-the-scenes footage to be found here, including some interesting Godfather screen tests, such as Robert DeNiro trying out for the role of Sonny. Celebrating the 30th Anniversary of The Godfather: Part III, director/screenwriter Francis Ford Coppola brings a definitive new edit and restoration of the final film in his epic Godfather trilogy - Mario Puzo's The Godfather Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone. Michael Corleone (Al Pacino), now in his 60s, seeks to free his family from crime and find a suitable successor to his empire. not even small a small studio logo. The front features the famous puppeteer Godfather logo beside the "50 Years" anniversary marker. Both are in Gordon Willis on Cinematography (3.5 minutes): The director of photography talks about his work on the films.

Also included are three character prints suitable for framing. These are full color art renditions of Vito Corleone as portrayed by both Marlon Brandon The thing I really appreciated is how these restorations are a tribute to incredible makeup work. Vito’s aged appearance in the first film or Michael’s haggard appearance in this film stands up to scrutiny against the increased resolution. One of the unfortunate downsides with the 4K format is that often it can be a look behind the curtain. You can clearly spot dodgy special effects matting or even shoddy makeup work. Not for The Godfather films. If anything, the added details make you appreciate the work more because it’s so convincingly lifelike you’d swear a fifty-year-old Al Pacino was well into his late 60s with a variety of debilitating health conditions. Again, film grain is beautifully retained and natural to the film without looking smoothed out. Textures in clothing and the impressive production design details of the late 70s/early 80s New York to the lavish Vatican City to rustic locations of Sicily are on full display. Restoration Comparisons (10.5 minutes): Some of this is shown in the Full Circle extra, but here we have uninterrupted examples of various restored scenes from the first two films, with the 2007 version compared against the new one.
