for that now. And this is now a bit like, well this is getting really, really fun for me because this is where you bring it all to life, and work out what you want.

Want to know how to use gilding wax? Annie Sloan Gilding Wax can be applied with a lint-free cloth or a brush. It is a finishing product, so should be applied after Clear Chalk Paint™ Wax. See how Annie does it by watching this handy tutorial. You can also read our Gilding Wax Fact Sheet. So that’s too much. So you’re gonna spread that out a long way, so a small amount of wax does go a long way. I’ll take my cloth and very lightly, not going mad. I’m just removing any excess, that’s all there is. I’ve waxed everything with the Clear Wax and now I’m going to sand it. I’m going to use my Sanding Pads. They’re really good because you’ve got the medium one, that’s the green one. The pink one is a fine one, and the blue one is coarse. Now usually I’ll start with the medium one and the coarse one because the fine one is for when I’ve sort of want to finish Gilding results may vary depending on previous treatment of the surface being painted. Always test on a small area first. Gilding Wax is not recommended for areas with a lot of water. It is not suitable for outdoor use. Wash hands and brushes with warm water and soap immediately after use.You can’t do it like you’re just cleaning something: you just polish it all off. You’ve really got to use the – these are great because they’re flexible, you can do them how you want. By using the wax to begin with it doesn’t take it off too easily. Some places I’ve gone right through to the wood there I really like that. I think it works for this very, very nicely. Protective waxing or a sealer coat of polyurethane can extend the life of chalk paint. Experts recommend sealing chalk paint finishes with a protective wax to prevent wear and tear, especially in high-traffic areas or high-touch surfaces. For peace of mind, brands like Rust-Oleum and others provide their own protective top coats designed for use with their chalk paint. This paint dries to the touch in 30 minutes. However, if you’re looking for a more opaque finish, you’ll have to wait at least two hours between coats. While primer isn't necessary with this chalk paint, it is highly suggested for unfinished wood. You also don't need to sand your surface for the paint to adhere. If paint gets on the floor by accident, the latex formula makes it easy to clean up with just soap and water. Covers up to 12m2 per litre. The coverage may vary depending upon the method and rate of application and porosity of the furniture surface. How long does it take to dry?

Available in 15ml tubes in five colours: Warm Gold, Bright Gold, Bright Silver, Dark Silver and Copper. Contrary to popular belief, chalk paint is incredibly versatile and can be used to paint fabrics as well as furniture and vases. Almost any chalk paint will work well on fabric, but we prefer Country Chic, because it is inexpensive and comes in more than 50 different colors. Sand the raised details with a sanding sponge to expose some of the gold paint. This will really make the details stand out. Wipe away any sanding dust and apply a final coat of Clear Chalk Paint™ Wax. This will seal and protect this piece. If you love the gilded look, but are nervous about gilding with gold leaf, look no further. This technique couldn’t be easier with the help of Annie Sloan Gilding Wax. Gold, copper or silver – choose a metallic to match your chosen Chalk Paint® colour and then all you need to apply the wax is a lint-free cloth or a small brush. For this particular technique, Annie used two gilding wax colours – a lighter gold on the raised areas and darker in the recesses – for a more three-dimensional or contoured look.Within 15 minutes you can apply a second coat of paint, after an hour it is touch dry and after 2 hours it is safe to handle. The paint will be fully set and dry after 3 hours. Is it easy to clean up? So to do it, I’m just going to put a little bit on my finger… a tiny bit and then I’m going to start wiping just to show up the relief. And because there’s quite a bit of texture in the paint, it’s not applying it flatly, which is perfect. Rub n’ Buff is not recommended for outdoor use as it is not waterproof and may deteriorate when exposed to moisture. Can I Use Rub n’ Buff on Metal for an Antique Gold Finish? Since VOCs (volatile organic compounds) are released into the air as paint cures and have been linked to a wide range of health problems, it is reassuring to know that Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint is free of them. The paint is a water-based with impressive adhesive qualities that will save you time when painting. When using chalk paint, there is no need to sand or prime the surface first. Many thanks to Eileen from Just Measuring Up and Megan from Two Feet First for hosting this challenge.

Apply Annie Sloan Gilding Wax in two colours (e.g. Bright Gold and Warm Gold) building up the wax in layers for an authentic, uneven look. To use the chalk paint on upholstery, evenly spray the fabric with water, and brush on the chalk paint (you may want to dilute it slightly). If necessary, apply a second or third coat of paint to get the desired effect. You can successfully transform a side chair or even an entire sofa with this chalk paint in minutes. Dust can prevent paint from adhering to upholstery, so be sure to clean and vacuum the surface before beginning. The paint is free of chemicals like phthalates, formaldehyde, or heavy metals and comes in 4-, 16-, and 32-ounce containers, so you can choose the right size for your needs. So I’ve got this old piece of furniture and I’ve painted it many times over the years so it’s got a lot of texture on it. It’s an old looking piece… probably not that old, but it’s an old looking piece and so I want to give these bits here a nice gilded look and I’m going to use… it’s called ‘Warm Gold’, but it’s really like the colour of Victorian gold. It’s warm, very slightly coppery and red. I’m going to use that mainly and then I’m going to use just a little bit of the light, brighter gold. I found a dated gold mirror at a church sale not long ago and I knew it would look fabulous with a coat of paint. This month, I’ve joined my blogger friends from The At Home DIY group for another fun challenge. As the theme is “update with paint”, I will show you how to update a gold mirror with chalk paint. Paint the gold mirror frame with chalk paint. Be sure to get into all of the nooks and crannies on the raised details. Let dry at least 30 minutes and apply a second coat.Yes, you can mix Rub n’ Buff colors to achieve a custom antique gold finish. Experiment with small amounts of different colors until you achieve the desired effect. Is Rub n’ Buff Waterproof for Outdoor Use? It’s all looking good but what I’m going to add is a second colour, which I’ll sort of use to highlight and slightly blend in. So I’m going to put it throughout the centre part, I think. Not everywhere, just in parts and not equally. Don’t get it too balanced. Otherwise, it’s too predictable. If it’s too flat, you don’t get that lovely authentic uneven look. A chalk paint's coverage claims should be taken with a grain of salt because of how widely varying each project is. Darker woods, for example, will require more product or coats to cover, especially if you’re using a lighter paint color. If you're going for a weathered look, full coverage might not be that important. You might even like the way the wood looks when it shows through. All things considered, 1 ounce of chalk paint will typically cover 1 to 3 square feet.
