Description

My first pair of Metcon 5s felt too tight in the toes – especially after a long day – when your feet swell. The Nano X1 is 2 ounces lighter than its predecessor, has 7mm of drop (Up from 4), and best of all – has some effective cushion in the heel and midfoot.

Most people I know haven’t had any major issues with Nanos, but Kate says she has friends who have worn Nanos in the past who complain that the outsole comes unglued after a lot of use (particularly due to handstand push-ups). Time will tell if this also happens with the X1s. Reebok Nano X1 Colorways and Design However, this isn’t to say that these models aren’t stable enough for a majority of recreational lifters and CrossFitters. In each shoe, I’ve worked between 365-405 lbs on squats and over 450 lbs in deadlifts and overall they were pretty good. For example, I didn’t even notice much compression when pulling 505 lbs in the Nike Metcon 7s. If you’re a lifter that wants versatility and decent stability with your training shoe, then I think the Reebok Nano X1 is worth it for you. This model features Reebok’s Floatride Energy Foam midsole which accommodates moderately loaded lifting, versatile training, and shorter runs fairly well. This is where the tough outsole wraps up around the sides of the shoe at the midfoot. Why? For grip when climbing ropes – and to protect the upper from friction.

In contrast the Nike Metcon 6 is heavier (but built like a tank) and it’s super versatile – thanks to the dual-density midsole and removable Hyperlifts – which let you choose 4mm or 12mm of drop. The first thing you’ll notice during use is that the Nano X1 is designed for anyone who likes to train hard. The shoe’s breathable yet durable Flexweave knit upper is ideal for fast, multidirectional movement, and helps you to keep cool in the process. The Metcon 6 brought to the table this new upper with giant-sized perforations. The Metcon 6 uses the new super-breathable upper. Can you see the sunshine shining through the upper? Quite frankly, the Nike shoe is probably tougher overall than the Nano X1. But that’s why it’s significantly heavier too.

Can we compare the Reebok to any of the other Metcon 6 versions? Here it is side by side with the latest AMP shoe. During our testing and reviewing both were found to be fantastic shoes, performing superbly in a range of activities. This really big rope wrap has an impact on weight though. Rope wrap to rope wrap. The Nike’s is massive, and makes the shoe heavier. The X1 has a minimal RopePro area. All of the X1 designs and colorways look like classic Reebok shoes, with a lot of the lines, contouring and curvature you can expect. They look super sporty. The Nike Metcon still has that slim Nike Metcon feel with the low-profile design, so it’s not the best model for the wider footed individual who could experience heel slip. It’s made from TPU and seems to work – as it’s one of the features that Nike keeps around every year. That all being the case – there’s something to be said for style and how well the shoe fits you. Which shoe is right for you? It may come down to style and fit. Photo Credits
