When I apply the basing paste I sculpt the waves as the water effects I use are thin so the underlying shape will show through. I am aware that there are products for sculpting waves but for these small ones it works pretty well and is pretty low effort. An overwhelming volley of Gauss Weapons fire destroyed the White Scars' Thunderhawks moments after they landed, leaving Khan and his battle-brothers to fight a bold, but doomed, series of hit-and-run battles. Almost all of the White Scars were slain on the Uzme Plateau, but Zahndrekh commanded that Kor'sarro Khan be spared and imprisoned. So did Kor'sarro begin a peculiar period of captivity beneath the surface of Cano'var.

Shadowsun: The Last of Kiru’s Line is a novella which could have easily worked but failed due to the direction it took. As an isolated short story it is adequate. Nothing exceptionally outstanding but fine for a few read throughs. As a character piece on the other hand, as the first book to have both a tau protagonist and show things from their perspective since Fire Warrior, it falls short of the mark. You can see the talent there, you can see the reasoning behind Braden Campbell’s decisions, you can see why the story was written in this way, but for all that there are big flaws in what he’s writing.

Ethereal [5 PL, -1CP, 85pts]: 2. Sense of Stone, 6. Exemplar of the Mont’ka, 6. Wisdom of the Guides, Hover Drone, Stratagem: Promising Pupil, The Humble Stave If you are playing on extremely open boards with a minimum of obscuring/dense terrain, a Shadowsun-based army can potentially have some legs- she still brings a large amount of raw firepower to the table and if you are able to leverage that consistently it is possible to make good use of her. Final Thoughts Crisis Shas’ui [60pts]: Cyclic Ion Blaster [10pts], Plasma Rifle [5pts], Plasma Rifle [10pts], Shield Generator [5pts] Adding some extra spice to a common archetype is a recipe we always like to see here on Competitive Innovations, and it’s great to see that it paid off for Vincent with a third place finish. The Rest of the Best Should you read this? Yes if you are a fan of BL or tales about the Tau. If you are just arriving to 40K I would not reccomend this tale. There are better out there.

This book, even if interesting setting, after all there are few books written in Tau perspective failed completely. That would actually be particularly good into this list, as the next notable difference in Alex’s build is that his Crisis Teams don’t have shield generators themselves, being purely offensive focused. That does make them a lot more vulnerable at baseline once they commit, but the army compensates by ensuring that they’ll always land some damage first. As well as the smart missiles from Broadsides, one of the Crisis units here is loaded up with airbursting frag, which when plenty of re-rolls (and maybe an auto-Markerlight from Longstrike) are applied will take a huge chunk out of whatever is skulking in cover, really adding to the “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” aspect of playing against this army. The Ethereal floating around on a hoverdrone as a hype-fish also adds Sense of Stone to the mix, and it looks like the speed of this option is giving it the nod over any of the fancier Ethereals in top builds, turning up in Vik’s too (which is fair, keeping up with Crisis is important). Shield-Captain on Dawneagle Jetbike [10 PL, -2CP, 180pts]: (Emperor’s Chosen): Auric Exemplar, 3. Superior Creation, Castellan’s Mark, Misericordia, Salvo Launcher, Stratagem: The Emperor’s Heroes, Stratagem: Victor of the Blood Games, Tip of the Spear Immediately after graduation and induction as a Shas'la, Shoh and his graduating class were immediately deployed to a warzone, combating the Arachen incursion of the Western Veil. Shas'la Shoh made a great impact on the spirit of the Fire Caste troops stationed in the Veil, and was closely observed by his old teachers that saw great potential in the young warrior. Other former instructors had become disgusted with his arrogance. As a result, instructors such as Sha'kan'thas made sure Shoh was assigned on the frontline in every deployment on the Western veil. If he was a prodigy born for glory he would rise to the challenge, if not then a troublesome student would be out of the way. Despite these challenges, Shoh preformed well against the Arachen for the next four years as a Shas'la trooper. [4d] Soon enough a surge of Tau reinforcements were able to land, bringing Stormsurge's to every major front on Prefectia. The suits were instrumental in blasting apart Imperial defenses and Hives, allowing for the Tau holdings on the planet to increase. With too many of their assets lost, the Astartes could not contest the Tau advances. Day by day the last Imperial strongholds fell, and the Ethereals declared Prefectia won. It was renamed Vas'talos in a grand celebration ceremony. Across the Tau Empire, propaganda portrayed this victory as their greatest yet. Shadowsun's image was boosted to the public and Ethereal Council alike, and she became a hero to the Tau. Tau propaganda broadcasts were kept on a loop for days afterwards as the Water Caste attempted to maximize the media value of the Prefectia victory. However to the Adeptus Terra, Prefectia had been of little strategic value and it was considered a minor loss on a minor front. The Imperials instead focused on reclaiming Agrellan. Shadowsun: The Patient Hunter The Tau were at a slight advantage after Mu'gulath Bay and Voltoris, for the Imperium had transferred much of Prefectia's garrison to wage these campaigns. Surprisingly, Imperial officials were in many ways glad at the Tau decision to not steer further towards Dovaris, and settled in for a new round of fighting. [1a] Opening Moves The galaxy has become yet more dangerous since the Great Rift tore across the stars. Its creeping evil has even reached the T’au Empire and their territories beyond the Startide Nexus. Warhammer Community: Reveals from the New Year Open Day 2020 (posted January 4 2020) (last accessed 1/4/2020) The White Scars discovered no mere warband, but a whole planet of Traitors and Renegades ready to stand against them, but Kor'sarro was not deterred. Upon making planetfall, Kor'sarro Khan found unexpected allies in the form of Shadow Captain Kayvaan Shrike and the Raven Guard 3 rd Company. Despite the millennia-old rivalry that exists between their two Chapters, the White Scars and Raven Guard put aside their differences and joined forces to defeat Voldorius' armies; Shrike and Kor'sarro slew the Daemon Prince in the streets of the planetary-capital of Mankarra.

Quite weak. Maybe for a newcomer to the game it doesn't really matter but to me it does since I consider BL as Canon to GW worlds.

Ashley Parkinson – Tau – 3rd Place

Allarus w/ Castellan Axe & Misericordia: 3x Balistus Grenade Launcher, 3x Castellan Axe, 3x Misericordia To be fair, I don’t particularly think that the Tyranids can afford to get very aggressive either, as a single monster thrown out unto the teeth of the Custodes will get stabbed to death, but because the attrition here favours them, that doesn’t matter nearly as much. In addition, on this mission in particular they have some powerful options for boosting their Primary in the mid-late game – once you’re deep enough in that you can afford to start throwing Dimachaerons or Harpies into sacrificial situations, you can ObSec one up with Synaptic Imperative and yeet it over to the opponent’s home objective for a sweet 4VP of Primary, making up quite a bit of a score gap even if you’ve been treading water on 6s and 10s most turns. That also forces them to scramble to actually clear it out our risk losing a point in their own turn, which is presumably extremely embarassing for the Custodian Guard. Since Custodes can’t as easily do the same in response, as Bikes aren’t ObSec and getting enough of them onto the Nids home one to out-hold the Swarmlord is going to be rough, you end up with a relative stalemate where the Tyranids have the tools to reliably pull

Afterwards, a recovering Shadowsun remembered her encounter with T'au'va, beneath Mount Kan'ji on Dal'yth, and how the Goddess had saved her. She then learned of the Death Guard's defeat and that their warships which had entered the Startide Nexus, were now likely trapped within the Warp. All this led Shadowsun to immediately tell the Earth Caste to stop the destruction of T'au'va's temples. [1h] Sources However, he sought to gain revenge upon the forces of Chaos for all they had done to the Chapter, and so he accepted the Rubicon Primaris transformation into a Primaris Space Marine.

Ben Jones – Adeptus Custodes – 3rd Place

The Tau do, though. Emphatically. Vik’s list does have a small challenge going into this that his list doesn’t have as many sacrificial units as some builds out there, so he doesn’t have that many turns before he has to start playing for objectives with his Crisis Teams, but in this game against such a small number of opposing units that does not appear to have mattered – Vik took this down with a commanding 100-69 victory, which strongly suggests the Tau were able to comfortably put up a clip of two monster kills a turn, at which point Mani just runs out of stuff. While Crusher has some formidible defences, one of the things it notably doesn’t have much it can do about is high-volume re-rolling shooting, and most Tau lists have that in spades, with the flamer Crisis Team in particular being a full nightmare for a Dimachaeron in particular, as it’s only T7. The third and final team can be handled with a multitude of characters. Build a team from any of the following characters: Tau’s initial success was one of the big headlines from the weekend, but the incredible surge in Custodes performance was definitely the other, and Vincent here emerged as the most successful of the many, many players of the faction at Beachhead. Custodes have broken out rapidly enough that some of what here is increasingly standard – pretty much every build is sporting two or three Bike units, Trajann and one or both of the two super Shield Captain builds, and usually a couple of solo-Allarus, but this list has a couple of unusual elements as well. Crisis Shas’vre [50pts]: Plasma Rifle [5pts], Cyclic Ion Blaster [10pts], Early Warning Override, T’au Flamer [5pts]
