Pooh and Pals: Pooh • Tigger • Piglet • Eeyore • Rabbit • Owl • Roo • Kanga • Gopher • Christopher Robin • Lumpy One hundred and fifteen years later, Alice’s great-great-great granddaughter Anna, is tasked by her grandfather Peter, with traveling with her husband Owen to visit the granddaughter and great granddaughter of Jane to make amends. The trip proves to be a journey of her own as Anna discovers the complicated history of how her family wronged another and amassed their incredible wealth. There would be the sea, the smell of the sea borne along on the wind, the sound of the sea and, shuddering, we would listen to its for gotten voice, saying don't leave again, don't' leave again... The idyllic life of Alexis is shattered, first by a storm, then by the death of his father. His family (Alexis, his mother and sister) is financially ruined, and beholden now to Uncle Ludovic, not so much a character as an abstract idea of harsh capitalism.

[1] Alice joins her already wealthy sister and brother-in-law up north, in a time where few women made the trek and none were listened to with respect. She’s a complex character, loyal to her family but also ambitious and prejudiced. ⁣I never really liked her, or many of the other characters in the past. She began to seem more and more greedy, unsatisfied with whatever her current situation was. The magnet can break while triggering the attraction by walking away but it is very unlikely to happen. He said, "Children destroy toys!", foreshadowing the rough play scene in the Caterpillar Room at Sunnyside Daycare. When the main character goes off to fight in World War I, it becomes a saga of the horrors of trench warfare, akin in its graphic depictions to Fields of Glory by Jean Rouaud. On top of all this, the book is also akin to a historical novel describing the brutal life of the various immigrant groups that were serfs/slaves on the island's sugar plantations in the early 1900's. It kept my attention and I learned a lot from it. We’ll charm them. We’ll drink a little, dance a little. And then, come dawn, we’ll escape down the mountain. Based on the author's great grandmother's memoir this is a tale of danger, adventure and greed in Alaska's Yukon Territory. 1895 Yukon is no place for a woman let alone two but that is where Alice follows her sister after the family hits a major gold vein. Alice yearns to escape from home and is eager to find adventure but gets frustrated that her role is little more than housekeeper and companion to her fragile sister. When a major theft happens and the suspects, a native brother and sister, are not reported Alice takes matters into her own hands. She further asserts herself by marrying her brother in law bonding the two families twice over. With great wealth should come great responsibility but as we see in two generations this is not the case. A fascinating account of adventure, success at incredible odds, greed and who has rightful ownership of the land and its riches.

The former depicts him with a high-pitched Southern accent while the latter has him with a deep, sophisticated voice. However, it should be noted that Jessie loses her western accent in several moments.

I don’t remember reading about the Gold Rush in a novel and definitely not in the Klondike. This is a fascinating adventure story. I’m not very adventurous and perhaps that’s why I found it appealing. Gold, then later to oil, a man and his wife find their fortune in the Klondike and that fortune breeds greed, ambition, deceit, manipulation and some truly unlikeable characters . The Evil Queen • Chernabog • Queen of Hearts • Captain Hook • Maleficent • Cruella De Vil • Ursula • Jafar • Scar • Hades • Dr. Facilier When one of them mentions “the Emerald Lodge” and appears never to have heard of the Evergreen Lodge, the narrator realizes that they must have taken the wrong chairlift. The Emerald Lodge was crushed by an avalanche two years earlier, killing the twenty-six men who were working there. This means that not only are they at the wrong lodge, but all their hosts and fellow guests are dead—ghosts of the workers who were killed two years ago.

Stinky Pete was never bought or played with by a child and spent a lifetime on a dime-store shelf, watching every other toy be sold to their new owners, which caused him to grow bitter, selfish, and angry. He was later sold to Al McWhiggin, who never took him out of the box, likely to avoid damaging him. Since Al was grown up, he planned to sell Stinky Pete to a toy museum in Tokyo. Stinky Pete found this to be good news, if kids didn't want him, then being in a museum meant people would admire him and be filled with nostalgia for a toy they never owned. However, Pete had to wait as Al attempted to sell the entire Woody's Roundup collection to the Konishi Toy Museum. After he met Jessie and Bullseye, Stinky Pete befriended them while they waited for Woody. J.M.G. Le Clézio tells a dreamlike tale that mixes youthful adventuring with head long ambition that climaxes with a world war. Ali never seems to lose that sense of adventure and the drive to find a lost treasure. At the same time, he seems painfully out of sync with the world. The author meticulously crafts each character, revealing the stark contrast in perspectives when transitioning from poverty to striking gold. The contrasting attitudes of the sisters, Alice and Ethel, towards wealth and aspirations, form a compelling narrative. The Berry brothers also pique interest with their familial disputes and jealousies, yet their loyalty to family ties remains unbroken. The book has a couple of love stories, one between a brother and sister, so close from their isolated upbringing that some folks kiddingly call them "lovers" (but they aren't, physically). They are in love with this island where they grew up, the tropical valley of their youth. I can't think of another novel that is so closely tied to love of place.
