Initial setup and use are a bit confusing. They could have invested more time giving step by step instructions in the manual. I'm a visual person so an instructional YouTube video on initial setup, use, and maintenance would have been helpful. I would consider myself a woodworker of moderate skill and it took me a long time to figure out the features. Even now I don't know that I understand all its capabilities. In fact, I saw a store clerk move the router up and down smoothly pushing in the button while rotating the knob on he side. I had no idea it could do that! (Forehead slap) The Triton TRA001 lives up to its reputation in both hand held and router bench modes. The soft start and variable speed adjustment provides greater control while delivering the power to cleanly cut through hardwoods. It saves me a lot of time, especially since I just have one router for off hand use and use with this table. Attaching and detaching the Triton router is simple and straightforward.

Machine is reasonably quiet and runs smooth, no play in shaft. The housing is a combination of fibre enforced strong engineered plastic and aluminium. It is well made and finished which is good. I love the features of the triton line, it sits in my router table and is wonderful to use. I love the ease to which I can change bites rais an lower the the bit. For a novice such as myself this router can't be beat. I wish there was an option for buying the tool with out all the gadgets... personally I will never use the 31/4 router to do anything else than be in my table. Still a really good concept, but not Festool quality, but then it is unfair to compair with a machine that cost 3 times as much. I also use a small Festool router so I can compair the quality feeling. The ONLY downside that I can think of with this machine is the cost - it IS expensive. That said I cannot recommend it highly enough for more reasons than mentioned above.

‘The BEST’ just got better: Triton’s new TRA is almost here

There are many other great features to this powerful, safe machine but these are my favourites and have made routing on the table a real pleasure. The power switch has a plastic window you have to slide out of the way to switch on power. This is really inconvenient with the router under the table. I suppose mounting another switch to the table saw could solve that problem. Or, perhaps breaking off the plastic safety window.

I bought this tool a month ago... I have to admit I was slightly intimidated by this router as it is the most powerful I used so far; but I found it easy and safe to use. Its features are super useful and far from being gadgets! It is also a Dual Mode Router as you can either use it as a normal plunge one or you can also table mount it AND it comes with a winder handle to adjust the height/depth of the router bit whence used as a table mounted one! No compatibility. If you want to use other manufacturers stuff you like with this great router, unless it's a guide bushing, you can pretty much forget it. The Triton TRA001s a great product but sometimes you want to upgrade the router without having to buy everything again except for the bits! (Guides, accessories, router table plate, etc). I own most of the other routers on the market at this price point. For this review I will state what I like and dislike as compared to those other routers. Even for me as a hobby carpenter, this router is worth their money and I will not give them anymore. So if you want to buy a great router, you should definitely look around at Triton - it's worth it. And if all Triton machines are so good, I'm sure I'll get one or the other part over time.Apart from the evolved components added to the electrical brain of the TRA002, there are some visible additions. The cut area has been redesigned and enclosed to create a hyper-efficient cyclonic-dust-extraction effect, which is coupled with a new extended vertical hose and swivelling extraction port. These new features will make the TRA002 the cleanest-operating router on the market. Other additions include a bright LED worklight to improve visibility during hand-held operation, and the base now features a guide bush plate, making the new TRA002 ready for Triton’s range of guide bushes straight out of the box.

After using the TRA001 to make six dining chairs out of white oak, I have some observations. I bought an aluminum router table insert and installed the router in the wing of one of my table saws, with a separate paddle switch. It's powerful and drives the big pattern routing bit through the white oak just fine. I really like the variable speed and the above-the-table height adjustment, and if I were using it hand-held I wouldn't mind the safety switch at all, and was happy to see the dust collection shroud. But dust collection is disappointing. I bought the Triton hose adapter, but the big end fit none of my hoses or other adapters and the small end falls out in use. When I got it hooked up to a large shop vac that I use where there is no DC system in my shop, I found the dust collection would collect some dust but the shaving-sized stuff piled up on the tabletop. I tried different router insert rings to give it smaller and larger openings since the entire bit and bearing are above the table in use, but that didn't help. Bottom line for me: a good machine with thoughtful features at a good price, but dust collection is a serious limitation. To be fair, I have several small and mid-size Porter-Cable and Dewalt routers dedicated to various tasks that make no attempt at dust collection, but it is something I am paying increasing attention to.I was looking for an additional router to hang permanently in the table and this looked the ideal unit as it offered some exceptional features which i’ll List.

Supplied here in 240v with a range of accessories including: 1x Table Winder, 1x 1/2" Collet, 1x 12mm Collet, 1x Multi Function Fence & 1x Collet Spanner. If you have a Workcentre 2000 and want a router table then this is a no-brainer; buy yourself one of these and (preferably) one of the excellent Triton routers and you will be set. The only thing I don't like about the new router is the new collet design. To change the size of the router shank it is necessay to change the whole assembly instead of just the collet insert. I find this an unnecessary complication, especially when working on the table using a narrow throated insert. In this circumstance it is quite difficult to get the collet nut through the table enough to change it or to insert a new cutter. For me, the old system worked very well - so why was it necessay to change it? I'm giving the TRA001 five stars for the reasons above which add up to unbelievable value for money. But I must subtract a bit for the depth-stop Irritation so let's call it 95% but even so, if you want a big router you won't be disappointed. I also love the plunge system: it makes life easy when doing off hand work, and when mounted in the router table.Sadly I had to return my router for repair after only a week of use. The reason why this is a pro is because customer service was excellent and the return was a breeze. Even taking into account the couple of minor criticisms I have about the router, overall, I am absolutely delighted with it and would recommend it especially for home made table mounting. It suits my needs perfectly. Somebody, somewhere, has actually thought about how to make this router useful and simple to use and, whoever you are, I take my hat off to you! different ways to adjust the height of the cutter/router so that you can be super accurate in an easy manner!
