Description

The HX800 has a robust build and, because it’s edge-lit, it’s rather slender too. The edge lighting also makes the HX800 more economical to run, but there are some downsides. While it will look great for everyday viewing in most living rooms, the limitations of strip lighting might become more noticeable when watching in a darkened room. New features include a game mode that can be calibrated with Calman software, as well as improved HDR Tone Mapping to deliver images as they’re meant to be seen. The most obvious negative is that there isn’t much weight to the sound. Gun blasts in the Deadpool freeway scene aren’t alarming or hard-hitting. You can toggle on the Bass Boost feature, but that’s missing the point. There are mid-range TVs that choose to champion bass, but often to the detriment of other areas of the sound. The Panasonic TX-58HX800B is an ultra-thin edge-lit VA panel LED LCD TV with the company’s HCX processor that features Hollywood tuned picture quality and HDR Bright Panel Plus technology. Energy consumption XYZ kWh per year, based on the power consumption of the television operating 4 hours per day for 365 days. The actual energy consumption will depend on how the television is used.

Those eyeing up the GX800 as a large, affordable gaming monitor will be pleased to hear that, while the set doesn’t support VRR, it does boast very low input lag. We measured it at 14.6 seconds, which isn’t far off the lowest current TVs are able manage. Also new for 2022 is support for the Netflix Adaptive Calibrated Mode, which serves the same purpose as Panasonic’s ambient light picture optimising technology but specifically for Netflix content. There are various panel technologies. Each has its own specific features - viewing angles, color reproduction, response time, brightness/contrast, production cost, etc. The image quality depends directly on the type of the display panel used.

We’re still waiting for official pricing and availability information for the 2022 range but have outlined the key features of each model below.

As far as we can tell, the MZ700 looks virtually identical to the MZ800, serving as the entry-level base for Panasonic’s OLED screens. Apparently this model doesn’t have HDR10+ and the sound system is different (the MZ800 is a subwoofer). Panasonic TV 4K LCD LED MX950 New for 2022, the “Game Control Board” functions similarly to Samsung’s Game Bar, presenting relevant real-time gaming information in one location. Frame data, HDR tone mapping settings, input lag and viewing modes will all be accessible at the touch of a button without the need to leave your game. What’s more, that clarity and precision lends a decent degree of spaciousness to the sound. The speakers do an excellent job of firing the sound out to the sides of the viewing position. With that audio nice and clear, it means that those sweeping wide effects, such as Ajax’s motorbike zipping across the carriageway, are not lost in the fog. Make sure not to position this TV too far into an alcove or there’s a danger of losing these effects. Need another reason to get excited? How about the fact that this Panasonic has been fine tuned by Hollywood colourist Stefan Sonnenfeld, meaning its cinematic chops are impeccable. So is this the new box office champion of the mainstream TV market? Often this is the rounded value of the actual size of the diagonal in inches. The standard selection comprises Dynamic, Normal, Cinema, True Cinema, Custom and Sport. There’s also a low input lag Game setting.

Whites are pure and colours are excellently judged, with skin tones a particular highlight, and while the GX800's slightly soft approach means images are a little less three-dimensional than they can be, detail levels are superb.

The HX800 is the follow-up to the best mid-range 4K TV of 2019, the Panasonic GX800. Is it everything we hoped?

There is no HDMI 2.1 support via the three HDMI inputs, but there is ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) available for gaming and a measured input lag of 15ms, which makes the HX800 a possible choice as a gaming TV. LZ2000: The LZ2000 is Panasonic’s all-singing, all-dancing flagship OLED. It’s powered by the company’s most advanced chip – the HCX Pro AI Processor – runs the latest version of its smart OS, My Home Screen 7.0, and supports a wide range of HDR formats, including HDR10+ Adaptive and Dolby Vision IQ. It’s significantly brighter than last year’s JZ2000, has an improved audio system and is now also available in a 77in screen size.
