Description

Betty – a talkative and intelligent purple octopus. She always wears a (usually) pink and yellow band on her head. Robert Seatter, BBC’s Head of History, said: “The BBC has an amazing history which belongs to us all. As we mark 100 years of our BBC, these new digital resources, partner exhibitions, research and publications give a unique insight into the history of the Corporation and provide something to intrigue audiences of all ages.” BBC at 100– Ten programmes that changed TV The Rabbits – live in the field near the clubhouse and all sound like hippies, apart from one who speaks French. Fawlty Towers – John Cleese farce topped BFI 2000 TV poll but was briefly removed from streaming service UKTV over “racial slurs” in The Germans episode. That collection is curated by Professor David Hendy, who this month publishes The BBC: A People’s History, an authorised centenary history book, tracing the BBC from its beginnings through war, the creation of television, changing public tastes, and its attempts to keep pace with continuous cultural change. An official history of the BBC at 100 will be published in January

There could be some surprise selections. Lisa Kerrigan, BFI’s Senior Curator of Television who is in charge of compiling the list, included animated CBBC series Hey Duggee when asked to choose the ten greatest shows of the 21 st century. Shows aired this century that will be up for consideration include The Office (2001), credited with changing the grammar of the sitcom, the hugely popular Strictly, launched in 2004, Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Fleabag and Michaela Coel’s ground-breaking I May Destroy You. Hey Duggee is a fun, inclusive and educational series devised by Grant Orchard, senior director of Studio AKA, and narrated by comedian Alexander Armstrong. BBC Studios and CBeebies recently announced it had commissioned a fourth series of the hit animation.

Mandy Thwaites, Director, Magazines & Consumer Products, UK Division at BBC Studios, says: “We’ve been extremely busy behind the scenes with Bluey and Hey Duggee and it’s great to see the interest both properties are generating. Personally, it was a real highlight to attend London Toy Fair and we had so many lovely conversations about the brands. It’s clear that our top dogs have great appeal across preschool audiences and people really connect to their warmth, inclusivity and humour. Buggee – a small insect who feels useless due to her small size until the Squirrels show her otherwise.

The programme's characters are talking anthropomorphic animals, with Duggee communicating in woofs. The episodes are based around The Squirrel Club, an activity club for children that Duggee leads. The children–the club's Squirrels–take part in all kinds of activities, have adventures and earn badges for their accomplishments. Each episode shows the Squirrels completing an activity or adventure relating to a badge that they earn at the end of each episode. There is no set formula for every episode, with many referencing or parodying pop culture.Since launching in 2014, Hey Duggee has become a six-time BAFTA and international Emmy award-winning hit. Hey Duggee was the most-watched kids’ show on CBeebies in 2021 and was streamed more than 250m times on BBC iPlayer in 2021. All episodes of Hey Duggee are available exclusively on BBC iPlayer in the UK. Dress-up clothes can help children to develop their creativity, imagination, and communication skills. By pretending to be different characters, children can learn to express themselves in different ways and to think about things from different perspectives. They may also learn about different cultures and ways of life, as they dress up in traditional clothing from around the world. Ottie (12 years old) (voiced by Sean Orchard in " The Making Friends Badge" and Magdalena Beardsmore in " The Same Badge") I’m excited to welcome H&A to our fabulous roster of partners and can’t wait for fans to see a great range of Bluey and Hey Duggee bath products on shelves. MV Sports have been a wonderful partner for Hey Duggee wheeled toys and are adding to that range as well as launching Bluey products in the UK. I’m also pleased to share details of further Character Options arts and crafts product lines for Bluey in addition to the deal we announced in December.
