On the whole colours are well reproduced, with a good level of vibrancy. Detail isn’t what could be described as “super fine”, but they are more than adequate for the size of the print which is produced. You can have fun with the splitzer, creating two (or more) frames within one shot, as well as the different coloured flash gels and the general multiple exposure mode. p>Using a Lomo instant camera in combination with Instax film is probably about as simple as it gets when it comes to analogue photography.

The lens is glass, a step up from the plastic lenses you get with all Fujifilm and some Lomography instant cameras. Its 95mm focal length is close to a standard-angle field of view, 45mm in full-frame terms. That's a departure from the 28mm-equivalent lenses that Lomography has used with smaller format instant models like the Lomo'Instant Automat, but a welcome change of pace for photographers who prefer a standard lens. Multiple filters (stylish, B/W, sepia, fish eye, vivid), 10 in-camera frames (antlers, color stripe, light bar, wings, speech bubble, photo inside a photo, comic strip, etc.), 30 frame options through the app, ability to put a time stamp on prints While the Lomo'Instant Wide can produce breath-taking images and enable the user to get as artistic as their creativity allows, it is also quite expensive. For many, the retro design, creative features, and picture quality will be enough to justify the price tag, and if we hadn't had so much trouble with the printing process, we'd completely agree. However, having access to printed photos in seconds is the main draw of instant cameras, and this one struggled to provide that. Also, the fact that this camera uses replaceable batteries, which are not included, means that the cost will continue to grow with its use. One saving grace is that the film for this camera is on the more affordable end, but this too will add up the more you use it. ConclusionIn a sense, lomography has always been around. There have always been photographers exploring odd equipment and pushing artistic bounds. As is very often the case with Lomo products, the best way to describe the results from the Lomo'Instant Square is “mixed”. In other words, with a camera like this, you can’t, and shouldn’t, expect to get perfect results with every shot - which some people will argue is all part of the Lomo charm.

Auto Shooting Mode: When the Auto Shooting Mode is selected, you will get perfectly exposed photos in most situations using the automatic flash. This is the perfect fuss-free, easy-peasy mode for day and night shooting! The viewfinder has two distinct levels of brightness. Ignore the darker vignette area—it's not going to show up in your image. The bright square is your frame, but you have to remember that framing is not going to be precise. The viewfinder is offset from the lens, and that difference means the framing is going to vary a bit, especially when focusing close. Other instant cameras use Zink paper, which uses heat to activate colors in the paper. The advantage to Zink is that you don’t have to worry about accidentally exposing the paper to light, as you do with Instax film. However, we’ve found that Zink prints tended to be less vibrant overall. The Instax Mini 12 is the perfect camera when you want to capture a moment without having to think about how to do it. And coming in five pastel color options, the camera itself adds to the festive mood. Occasionally, strange artefacts appear on the Instax film - I’m not entirely sure if this as a result of bending the film slightly, but again, this could be considered a “quirk” which some people like to see. Sample ImagesPictures from the Lomo Instant Glass Magellan were incredibly sharp. Its size made it convenient to carry around, and it performs well in low-light; it did not even require a lighten mode to take some night shots in the yellow streetlamp of a park. Lomography sells several versions of the Lomo’Instant Automat, some of which include add-on lenses, such as a "Splitzer" gizmo that divides the frame into different sectors, and a lens for shooting extreme close-ups, up to a foot from your subject.
