If you read a type of compelling treatment, follow up with your dietitian or health care provider! They can further educate you and help you decide the right course of action. Nourish Can Help

The original version of Overcoming Binge Eating was published in 1995 and the second edition in 2013. Since then Part I has become established as a leading source of information on binge eating problems. Meanwhile the treatment program in Part II has been investigated in numerous clinical trials making it possibly the most extensively tested self-help program for any problem. It has repeatedly been found to be a potent source of help, either when used on its own or when used with external support (guided self-help). As a result, the program has become established as a leading treatment for binge eating problems. In recognition of this, Overcoming Binge Eating was awarded the Seal of Merit from the US Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies and in the UK National Health Service doctors can prescribe the book as if it were a form of medication. Preface to Overcoming Binge Eating (Second Edition) Brief Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Non-Underweight Patients (Glenn Waller, Hannah Turner, Madeleine Tatham, Victoria Mountford & Tracey Wade)p. 94 Those who develop bulimia nervosa or anorexia nervosa are unusually compliant and conscientious as children. They are often somewhat shy and solitary, and they may have had difficulty mixing with other children. In addition, they tend to be competitive and achievement oriented. They set themselves high standards and work hard to meet them. These traits seem to be the precursors of the low self-esteem and perfectionism seem in many people with anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa. Does the author hold credentials? If the book offers medical advice, the author should be an MD. A registered dietitian should write Nutrition books. Overcoming Binge Eating is, in my opinion, the best self-help book for people struggling with binge eating. The binge eating book contains a psychoeducation component and a structured self-help component, shown to be highly effective. It’s easy to read and follow, and the self-help steps are based on solid evidence. Getting Better Bite By Bite (Ulrike Schmidt, Janet Treasure, & June Alexander)

Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Binge Eating and Bulimia Nervosa (Debra Safer, Christy Telch, & Eunice Chen). Full Book Name: Overcoming Binge Eating: The Proven Program to Learn Why You Binge and How You Can StopTime moves on, new knowledge is acquired, and with the new knowledge comes advances in treatment. As a result the second edition is essentially a new book. It continues to provide a comprehensive and up to date account of what we know about binge eating problems including those seen in anorexia nervosa, but it also provides much more information about dieting, body weight and body image. Intuitive eating focuses on nourishing your body instead of denying it. This book can teach you strategies and new ways to view food and nutrition. If you constantly feel in a tug of war with wanting to eat but feeling guilty when you do, this book is for you. Overcoming Binge Eating, by Christopher Fairborn

Dialectical behavior therapy is an evidence-based form of psychotherapy that helps people regulate their emotions. This workbook suggests exercises to help you identify emotional triggers and how to cope with big emotions through non-harmful behaviors. Dr. Christopher Fairborn has published several books on health and eating. This book is older, it was published in 1995, and the writing style may not appeal to everyone. Some people find this book helpful, while others feel it is dated. We’ve included it on the list so you can decide if it’s worthwhile for you or not. More Than A Body: Your Body Is An Instrument, Not An Ornament, By Lindsay Kite and Lexie Kite. My second issue.. I appreciate the alternative activities to binge eating suggested however I wish the author explained why these aren’t going to work long term. I wish the author talked about binge eating being a symptom and if you don’t work on healing these strategies are only going to get you so far.

This book is based on the authors’ ground-breaking research at London’s Maudsley hospital, providing adults with anorexia nervosa and mental health professionals working alongside them with a practical resource to work through together.
