Roman is one of the homeless who is trying to come to terms with the death of his wife and children. Mary embarks on an affair with Leo the man she gave her bone marrow too. Forget about solving all these crimes; the signal triumph here is (spoiler) the heroine’s survival. An unusual Rendell. Great characterisations but way too much about the roads around Regent’s Park. The plot revolves around Mary a naive upper middle class woman. She gives bone marrow to a young man to the chagrin of her boyfriend Alistair a complete arsehole. Happily soon to be an ex boyfriend but she goes from the pan into the fire.
