The Samplepad is Alesis' latest offering in affordable electronic percussion instruments. The Samplepad is a 4-pad trigger pad which contains 25 built-in sounds. It even features the ability to output MIDI data so you can trigger samples on a sampler, computer, or any other MIDI compatible module. Depending on the type of pad, the predominant functions can be vastly different. Before investing it’s important to know the subtleties between the pads on offer, so you can accurately choose which best suits your needs. Generally speaking there are sample pads, percussion pads and drum synthesizers, all usually listed under the term ‘drum pad’ or ‘multipad’, so let’s take a closer look. What is a sample pad? Overall though, this is one of the best all-rounder pads out there, with impressive functionality and features.

I’ve used this for live gigging. To be honest, it wasn’t too bad. At times, I didn’t think the sensitivity was amazing but it’s a nice cheap option to use alongside a drum set or for a producer’s live performance. When compared to options from Roland or Nord, some of the on-board sounds are a little unsophisticated, and we experienced some awkwardly long loading times when switching between functions. While this is not too much of a problem at home, this could potentially waste precious seconds on stage. When a sound is selected on your SD card, you can load it into a specific pad and save a new user kit. It’s a relatively easy process. Two velocity layers per pad This would be particularly problematic if you’re planning to launch long samples (e.g. pads with long chord progressions, bass lines, etc). Cross-talk could unexpectedly start or stop these samples at the wrong time.

All-In-One Percussion Instrument

If the Pro model is a bit rich for your blood, there’s still plenty to love about the red ‘Special Edition’ of the original SPD-SX, which features a hefty 16GB of storage space and is currently a decent chunk cheaper than the new pro model. Ultimately, there are pads out there to suit a whole host of different needs, so it’s important to be clear on what specific role it will play within your music creation. How we chose the best electronic drum pads for this guide Need an extra cymbal or tom for certain songs? Got it covered. Want to add some wind-chimes into a quiet section of your song? No problem. Whatever sound you're looking for, the Alesis SamplePad gives youendless possibilities to addnew and creative elementsto your setup. Versatile and Rugged Sample Trigger

In practice, importing sounds turns out to be a relatively smooth process. Once a sound is selected from the card it takes a few seconds to load into the pad, and when you’ve filled all your pads with suitable sounds and set the parameters as you want them, you can save the kit. Collection and delivery costs are included for the first 2 years in the event of an item becoming faulty Multipad’ is a catch-all term for pads that include multiple functions and quite literally: multiple pads. Each multipad will have different qualities and functions; for example the Alesis Strike MultiPad has a large library as well as 32GB of space for uploading your own samples.

The size and functionality of the SamplePad 4 make it an incredibly useful and flexible piece of gear. With the SD expansion slot, you can load up all of your own samples ready for gigging. Or, you can just play for fun anywhere without having to be tied to a machine. The maximum capacity for SD card storage is 32GB or 512 samples - plenty of space for a wide range of sounds. Play around with sensitivity settings, and if you’re playing this live then do it with your live performance in mind. i.e. you might play pretty quietly when practicing and then smash the pad when playing live. This particular pad can lose a lot of dynamics if you set the sensitivity too high, so keep that in mind. Though it can be a trade-off between sensitivity and potential cross-talk (though this might only be the case in certain older models, I’m not sure about that), so test that a bit before performing!

If an item can not be repaired, a similar alternative product or cash discount (as defined in this policy) will be offered If you'relooking for a dedicated sample triggerthe Alesis Samplepad is ideal. It's low cost, rugged and functional, with velocity sensitivity and an SD card slot for use without a distinct sampler unit. The Samplepad is the ultimate compact sampler module, ideal for enhancing your live performances with highly-creative sampled sounds. Here's what Alesis say about the Samplepad: With SamplePad Pro, there’s no limit to your sonic creativity.
