The Excel 5 model has the same top speeds as a 2 speed clipper, but adds 3 extra, lower speeds. The lower speeds reduce blade heat, noise and vibration for sensitive areas and anxious pets, and for use in areas where skin is thinner and vibration is more noticeable against the bone, such as legs, feet and face. The only negative thing I have to say about these clippers is that the instructions are not very clear - we did struggle for a while trying to figure out how to change the blades - but once you have that sorted, the process is very simple.
