Description

For dark and extractive-rich hardwoods (e.g. Wenge, Walnut, Jatoba etc.), we recommend using Osmo Wood Wax Finish Clear Extra Thin.

Multi-purpose cleaners such as washing up liquids and detergents are highly detrimental to the finished surface and is not recommended to be used as discolouration or staining may be possible. Any thing that covers a large are of the floor, for example a settee or sideboard, particularly if the they are low could potentially slow down the curing process slightly, so if possible have a temporary location for a week and then move and expose that area for curing after. Its not vital, however could help with even curing and appearance over time, be practical however as in life sometimes makes it difficult to do these things.

For cork surfaces, due to their high absorbency please ensure that the wood finish is applied especially thinly.

There is a couple of downsides to choosing Osmo oil on an exterior over other products. The first, you need to give your timber extra coats of oil!! The more protection you can give external timber the better, so bare timber should get at least 3, maybe even 4 coats of Osmo oil. The second is your timber is going to need topping up with Osmo every year or 2 or it won’t last. One plus point is Osmo UV-Protection oil remains microporous, meaning you can apply additional coats further down the line without the need to sand. My preference is the satin over the matt as I think it gives you the most dramatic impact. The best thing about any Osmo oil is how rich it makes your timber look!! Osmo brings out the grain like no other product I have used in my professional career, except maybe Fiddes Hard Wax Oil. Even when using tinted Osmo oil you loose nothing in the way of character and charm from the wood. Third Coat: Usually a third coat is not required, however highly absorbent or dry timbers may appear to require a third coat. Buffing is not really something that helps with these oils, they dry hard and although they do contain some waxes or resins they do not increase much in shine when you buff them. The oil is inside the wood and so there is little for light to bounce off unlike wax that remains on the surface of the wood and is much more reflective.

One of the key benefits of Polyx-Oil Effect is its exceptional durability. It is scratch and scuff resistant, making it perfect for high traffic areas in your home. It is also water and dirt repellent, making it easy to clean and maintain. Osmo Polyx Oil is the original hard wax oil a combination of natural oils and waxes for use on almost any interior project. Hard Wax Oil is almost as hard as a varnish but easier to repair. All you need is a rag apply the oil over the affected areas without having to remove any previous finish. The oil will reach full hardness after around 10 days to 2 weeks, time frame can depend on temperatures, and good air circulation will speed this up. So we asked the builder to stop staining while we re-evaluated. Also we asked him to experiment with sanding and wire-brushing to see how much could be undone. A. THIN application is very, very important. If too much is applied then the small amount of white pigment in this product can remain on the surface to give a patchy or milky appearance. The product needs to be worked into the wood so that very little remains on the surface. Also the darker the wood is (prior to application) the more likely the white residue is to remain. Whilst some people don't want the slight white look, others find it quite desirable

When applying Polyx®-Oil Tints 3040 White, also use Polyx®-Oil Tints 3040 White as the top coat to prevent yellowing. Please Note: Oiled or waxed surfaces should not be cleaned with a steam cleaner or steam mop as these will degrade or potentially strip the oiled finish. Renovation Ex. For Natural (no colour change from raw wood) tint Polyx-Oil with Wood Wax Finish 3111 White at 3% for the base-coat, followed by a coat of clear (untinted) Polyx-Oil as a top-coat.Osmo oil hit the British market around 15 years ago and since then it seems to have taken over!! It is everywhere!! In this review I’m going to talk about the Osmo products I’m most familiar with and give you my honest opinion based on my experience as a professional decorator. As well as giving you my Osmo oil review, I want to talk about the best place to buy Osmo oil. I hope you find it useful. Occasional Maintenance: For satin sheen surfaces that have dulled slightly, refresh the surface with Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner. Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner can also help to remove stubborn shoe scuff marks for example. If the treated surface has retained colour yet there is a reduction in water repellency use Osmo Maintenance Oil. This is important to ensure the top coat remains optimal – especially in very busy areas like a door entrance for example. Osmo Maintenance Oil is thinner than regular Polyx Oil so can be used more regularly without adding too much wax and oil. Before using Osmo Maintenance Oil, damp clean the surface using diluted Osmo Wash and Care, or alternatively Osmo Spray cleaner and allow to fully dry. For small areas Osmo Maintenance Oil can be applied thinly with a lint free cloth or white pad. Remove excess product. Allow for good ventilation while drying. A small trial is highly recommended first. We have spare boards we can use to test different combinations and scenarios if needed. This time we want to get it right - any help would be very much appreciated. What I can tell you is that easy marking is a sign of over or under application of the oil, over application being the most common. Over application can be too much oil applied to the surface, or because the wood is a tight grained, hardwood, or because it has been over sanded and this has closed the grain. Tinting: Osmo Wood Wax Finish can also be used to lightly tint Polyx®-Oil 3054 up to a ratio of 10:1. Do not exceed a ratio of 10 parts Polyx®-Oil 3054 to 1 part Wood Wax Finish.

Now we come to the Polyx family. I think this is the one that trips people up a bit. It is comprised of five individual products. Four are clear, and one is not. Let’s start with the one that is not - Osmo Effect/Neutral/Raw 3041 (I have seen it referred to all three ways which also adds to the confusion). It has a 2% white tint in it to counter the natural ambering of lighter woods, such as maple, ash, and white oak. You can use either 1 or 2 coats, depending on the look you are after. You will never get a truly white finish from it because it only has so much white in it. It has more of a matte finish to it and should be topcoated with a clear Osmo finish. I have used it on both maple and ash, and the wood looks almost bare afterwards. Other household cleaning products such as vanish, bleach, baking soda etc. are likely to cause severe discolouration or staining.

A base coat of Osmo Wood Protector 4006 is recommended for use in bathrooms or kitchens. Please be aware that Osmo Wood Protector 4006 may darken the wood very slightly.A trial application is highly recommended. Polyx®-Oil Effect Raw is slightly white tinted and protects lighter coloured wood species nearly invisibly. On dark, reddish or ‘smoked / fumed’ wood species, Polyx®-Oil Effect Raw is visible as slightly white chalky surface. Applying excess Polyx®-Oil Effect Raw 3044 may also lead to a white chalky surface. Remove visible white pigments before allowing the surface to dry.A trial application is recommended.
