Being a children's story, it's understandable that character building plays the bigger role compared to setting up the environment. Still, I think the environs were adequately defined. The main characters - including the first person protagonist - were interesting, fun and delightful to observe. However, for me, the secondary characters appeared a little too funny, even when they were supposed to be threatening. It took away some of the suspense/ thrill that could've been there in my opinion. And also, if the set of main characters were a little older, may be things would appear a little more realistic (relatively). But as the plot itself is great, it's easy to forget those shortcomings, and enjoy the story. Obviously, none of these would matter to kids at all, who will find the entire thing to be quite entertaining. Sequence of events is very well thought out, and laid out in a way that will make you want to read the entire thing in one go, which is not difficult to do actually, as the book is not very long. Everything is well written, and well capable of intriguing one to continue with the rest of the series (which I'll be doing shortly). a b Oksner, Robert (May 21, 2006). "The Lightning Thief Review". Kidsreads. Archived from the original on September 4, 2009 . Retrieved September 1, 2009. Can Percy and his friends Annabeth and Grover find the chalice before it falls into the wrong hands? And even if they do, will they be able to resist its awesome power. . .? I tried to stay cool. The school counsellor had told me a million times, ‘Count to ten, get control of your temper.’ But I was so mad my mind went blank. A wave roared in my ears.

That’s because the flow may feel disrupted with the short stories that are scattered throughout the timeline. As well, since Riordan was writing multiple series over the span of many years, there is overlap throughout the universe with events taking place at the same time. Some of the short stories are also hard to place within the timeline, because trying to line up seasons, ages, and events within the overall timeline with the main books can be challenging. If you’re reading this because you think you might be one, my advice is: close this book right now. Believe whatever lie your mom or dad told you about your birth, and try to lead a normal life.Another thing I loved were the other characters. Especially Annabeth, who looks like Cinderella in Percy's words (am I right? I don't have the book on me, sorry. Stupid library fines). And I'm expecting something to develop between her and Percy, if you know what I mean.... Katie Gardner - Katie is a daughter of Demeter and the head counselor of her cabin. She is rivals with the Stolls and thought they were spies for Kronos. No – he didn’t expect me to be as good; he expected me to be better. And I just couldn’t learn all those names and facts, much less spell them correctly. Percy had to choose between giving Annabeth's knife to Luke and allow him to destroy himself or trying to destroy Luke himself. Either choice would have resulted in Luke's death however.

Annabeth is able to help Luke overcome Kronos, and Percy gives Annabeth's knife (which is the cursed blade mentioned in the prophecy) to Luke. Luke, also invulnerable from bathing in the River Styx, stabs himself in his wrist As it turned out, Percy is *whispers* special. He is a half-blood, meaning one of his parents is a Greek deity. He gets sent to Camp Half-Blood, with roughly 100 other kids like him.Notable Books of 2005". The New York Times. New York, NY. December 4, 2005 . Retrieved May 19, 2009. Percy/Harry has a gross stepfather named Smelly Gabe who protects him during his childhood, so Smelly Gabe obviously equals the Dursleys. It's such a fun way to introduce Greek mythology to children and teens while staying entertaining for adults as well! The mythology remains faithful to the original stories, but it feels fresh and fun here as each character is full of personality and charm. The world is full of magic and wonder and I never once felt bored as the characters explored within it. The main bad guy (Kronos/Voldemort) is seeking to return to his former power, but most people are totally in denial of that happening.

But Camp Half-Blood Confidential explores much more than just the buildings and grounds. It includes info that can only be learned from those who live there. For instance, campers do not always co-exist in peace and harmony. The camp is not run with superior efficiency. Prophecies do not flow forth with great regularity. Phoebe - Phoebe is a Hunter of Artemis. She was supposed to go on the quest to save Artemis and Annabeth, but was poisoned by the Stoll brothers. Witty and inspired. Gripping, touching and deliciously satirical...This is most likely to succeed Rowling. Puffin is on to a winner' - Amanda Craig , The Times Grover tried to calm me down. ‘It’s okay. I like peanut butter.’ He dodged another piece of Nancy’s lunch.I don’t remember touching her, but the next thing I knew, Nancy was sitting on her butt in the fountain, screaming, ‘Percy pushed me!’ Poseidon - God of the sea and earthquakes, father of Percy. He is very kind and has a good relationship with his son, visiting him on his fifteenth birthday and helping Tyson. I could start at any point in my short miserable life to prove it, but things really started going bad last May, when our sixth-grade class took a field trip to Manhattan – twenty-eight mental-case kids and two teachers on a yellow school bus, heading to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to look at ancient Greek and Roman stuff. Silenus and Maron - Satyrs and members of the Council of Cloven Elders. They didn’t believe that Pan was dead and voted to exile Grover. Percy finds the whole city of Manhattan asleep from Olympus, so the war can go on without any of the humans interfering.
