The friends being half of local group Duskhouse, namely vocalist Lily Balmer and on Ibanez guitar is James Bowden. Martyn, as you would expect, is on vocals as well as playing his Fender Jaguar guitar. There is no drummer. M. Butterfly at Concorde 2, Brighton 12.8.23 (pic Sara-Louise Bowrey) has been involved in Gaelic Music for most of his adult life in one capacity or another. Calum has recorded as a solo artist with the release of two all Gaelic albums: The Megantic Outlaw in 1983 and Gael Force in 1988 before commencing a new career as a full time Gaelic Music Instructor in Primary and Secondary schools on the Isle of Lewis in 1992. The friends for the live set of Terry De Castro & Friends were an additional vocalist (Astrid Williamson), bassist (Melanie Howard), drummer (Nicholas Wellauer) and percussionist (Will Thomas). Terry explained that her eight tune performance was “songs about love and demise of love”. Musically the set was beautifully crafted Americana pop songs. Before a cover of The Smiths song ‘London’ Terry explained that she “countrified covers”. Astrid Williamson with Terry De Castro at Concorde 2, Brighton 12.8.23 (pic Sara-Louise Bowrey)

This book certainly draws you into a reverential frame of mind, and at times mesmerizes. It's interesting to extrapolate and compare some of the tendencies of these simpler life forms onto the human race. One large and noticeable difference is in the value that the human species generally has put on any individual human life with its construction of morality. For the simpler species, the production of extreme numbers presume that many will not survive and will be sacrificed. Its also interesting to note that this devaluation of the individual life resurfaces for the human species in its perpetuation of war and tribal clashes. It said a recent study showed that if climate change is restricted to 2°C, up to 171,000 properties could be affected by changes to the coastline in England by 2080. The Edge of the Sea (1955) explores the small creatures that live where ocean meets land: the shorelines and tidepools accessible to any beachcomber. Part handbook, part hymn to ecological complexity, it is a book that conveys the sense of wonder in nature for which Carson is justly celebrated.Ballantyne is a collaboration with musician and composer Calum Martin, who has been involved in composing, recording, performing and teaching Gaelic music for more than 40 years. Scientist and ecologist Rachel Carson is famously the author of Silent Spring (a landmark book challenging the use of pesticides), and not-quite-so-famously the author of The Sense of Wonder (a short book about helping children develop a sense of wonder and appreciation for the natural world) which I have gushed about in the past.

It's a beautiful sentence, the kind you want to roll around in your mouth for a bit before moving on to the next one. Nearly every sentence is crafted in this way, meaning the reading is often slow-going. Its appendix and index make it a great reference tool for those interested in plant and animal life around tide pools. A new generation of readers is already discovering why Rachel Carson’s books have become cornerstones of the environmental and conservation movements.Lily Balmer – vocals Lily Balmer with M. born in Glasgow, 1959. Studied composition and piano at the Royal Academy of Music, London from 1977 to 1981. A new generation of readers is already discovering why Rachel Carson’s books have become cornerstones of the environmental and conservation movements.” From the National Book Award–winning author of Silent Spring: An exploration of marine life that takes us into “a truly extraordinary world” ( The Atlantic Monthly).Armstrong’s second Scottish Opera commission, The Lady From The Sea, premiered at the Edinburgh International Festival in 2012 winning the Herald Angel Award. A variety of groups ranging from government institutions to environmental and conservation organizations to scholarly societies have celebrated Carson's life and work since her death. Perhaps most significantly, on June 9, 1980, Carson was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the United States. A 17¢ Great Americans series postage stamp was issued in her honor the following year; several other countries have since issued Carson postage as well.

From dictionary definition it might mean that they are similar, but in reality or in actual ocean terminology they are not similar. The Edge of the Sea by Rachel Carson (1955), was the last book of what became known as her “Sea Trilogy,” preceded by Under the Sea Wind (1942) and The Sea Around Us (1951). Her meticulously researched nonfiction writing was known for its graceful and poetic style.

More about The Edge of the Sea

She wrote several other articles designed to teach people about the wonder and beauty of the living world, including "Help Your Child to Wonder," (1956) and "Our Ever-Changing Shore" (1957), and planned another book on the ecology of life. Embedded within all of Carson's writing was the view that human beings were but one part of nature distinguished primarily by their power to alter it, in some cases irreversibly. During the set Holly gave a shout out to the “little train” as the Volks Railway train went by. You don’t get that at many gigs! Unfortunately, because of over running of previous sets, and starting later than scheduled, some of the audience moved inside to get a good spot for The Wedding Present and for the raffle draw. They missed out on the final song of Berries prize performance. The trio are currently working on the follow up to ‘How We Function’ and have promised to include Brighton on their next tour.
