Description

Having the right reinforcement is crucial for any masonry construction. There are many options available, but the most common are ladders or mesh. The longitudinal steel wires are flattened to ensure good mortar cover even when lapped or used with wall ties. Cross wires are welded in the same plane as the main wires at 450mm centres. Standard configurations suit a wide range of structural load conditions and wall widths. Product selection is based on calculation.

It is necessary to provide horizontal reinforcement at your every three to four-course, which consists of the Steel mesh. In the case of beams, lintels and slabs, the concrete present in the lower portion below the neutral axis is not able to resist the load. This concrete acts as only the filler material. Available in both grade 304 and 316 stainless steel, Ancon masonry reinforcement provides the greatest corrosion resistance and life-cycle costing benefits. Length Assists resistance to tensile stresses where settlement occurs. Easily incorporated into mortarcourse, coiled for ease of handing.

The use of Ancon reinforcement referenced AMR/S/D3.5/W60 is normally recommended at vertical centres no greater than 300mm, usually every course or every other course depending on the height of the masonry unit. The illustration below uses a 215mm unit height. With so many positives, it’s no surprise they remain the number one choice for external walls to this day. The Reinforcement should be effectively surrounded by the mortar cover of 15 cm to 25 cm. It will help to protect the Reinforcement against corrosion. However, both products do similar jobs, so there are many circumstances where either could be used. As mentioned before, the architect or structural engineer should specify which is required.

Bed joint reinforcement can also be used near the top of the structural walls abutting concrete roofs and to provide additional strength to parapet walls. Position the mesh within the masonrybed joints, providing a minimum of 25mm cover to external faces.

Materials

Galvanised steel mesh should not be used on external wall leaves. Here, stainless steel should be used.

It plays an important role in the earthquake resistance as compared to the reinforced cement concrete. How to Building Construction Process Step by Step – Follow 26 Step for Building Construction Process Materials, products and services define how our world is built and is why Leviat is gearing up to sponsor and showcase an incredible line-up of innovative solutions from its world leading range of connecting, fixing and anchoring products at Futurebuild 2023. Whether your job needs a reinforcement ladder or mesh should be specified by the architect or a structural engineer.Position the mesh within the masonrybed joints, providing a minimum of 25 mm cover to external faces. We will endeavour to deliver on the day specified, but cannot be held responsible should delays occur due to circumstances beyond our control. Please try and avoid arranging for tradesmen to begin work before the materials have arrived as D W Nye Ltd will not be held liable for any costs incurred as a result of not meeting a delivery date. Ladders can sometimes be preferred due to their shape, which allows additional masonry reinforcement - such as vertical bars - to be inserted. LABC Warranty also recommends ladders over mesh for openings greater than 1.5m in width, such as above and below large windows. Which of these you require for your build should be specified by the architect or structural engineer. Below, we run through these two common methods of reinforcement and what they provide. Standard AMR is available in three widths - 60, 100 and 150mm - and can be used in wall widths from 90mm to 190mm.
