Description

You can also buy a handheld stabilizer, detachable tripod kit, and the aforementioned turntable should your scanning plan require these.

The alignment of several scans to each other is satisfactory. Instead of opting for the fully automatic scan, we provided 3 reference points in 2 scans and then just let the software do it. However, 3 reference points is not really a lot. Therefore, you have to put in some effort and find good points that clearly define the future arrangement. It would be easier with more points. A few other points regarding the software. It is written using QT for Python with OpenCV doing the heavy lifting. I don’t have the skills but believe if this was open sourced the community could/would help with development. Since the 3D scanner is an optical device, light and places that the camera cannot illuminate are not scanned, such as the inside of shoes, the bottom of cups. ¶ 14. What's the requirement of a computer to run CR studio?

What I like

The MINI employs high-resolution structured blue light technology, different from the straight camera/infrared combo of the POPs, to help with the ever-present issue of ambient light spoiling and distorting the scanning process. Much like the POPs, the MINI doubles as both a stationary and handheld device, with a sleek turntable to improve workflow available in the premium bundle. The 10 FPS scan speed also carries over from the POP family. Whatever the technology is, I find the Creality CRScan Lizard better than all my old scanners (line laser, Kinect, etc.). It is also much better and faster than other scanners I have used in my experiments with photogrammetry. By the way, just to be clear, most of my scanning projects involve small to medium-sized parts in turntable operation. The scanning technique that is suitable depends on what is to be scanned. Therefore, what suits me may not suit you – and vice versa. The need to tether the scanner to a robust laptop or your desktop PC really limits how you can use this device. I tried the unit on three computers – two of them custom-built gaming PCs with good video cards – and still the CR-Scan Lizard would falter on darker colors. The kit I received included some extras and was considered a premium upgrade. The upgrade is for capturing textures with a separate camera. The idea is to use a smartphone or camera in conjunction with the scanner to capture color textures. The turntable starts turning as soon as power is applied and is not controlled. The camera box included with the color kit is lit by a USB-powered led strip. Like I previously stated, the 3D scanner does not use visible light and works regardless of the visible lighting conditions and is only needed for color textures. First scan with CR-Scan Lizard For one, Lizard can scan accurately in sunlight. 3D scanners typically struggle with too much direct light, forcing users to scan in a darkened room for best results. However, Lizard, thanks to its multi-spectral optical technology, maintains excellent performance even in bright sunlight — which would vastly improve its field of application. The scanner can also be powered by a portable charger, so, in theory, you could go out there and scan the woods to your heart desire.

Brightness is not a challenge for scanning.Designed by multi-spectral optical technology, CR-Scan Lizard maintains excellent performance even in bright sunlight, vastly improving environmental adaptability. The fully automated color mapping texture suite that promises true color fidelity for your scanned objects, you can make use of the mapping process, where high-definition color pictures of the model taken with a phone or DSLR camera can automatically be mapped onto the 3D model, allowing you to create high-quality, vivid color scans. 5. CR STUDIO The Revopoint POP 2 includes a variety of modes: stationary, handheld, markers, features, face, body dark/hair, and head scanning. Outdoor scanning isn’t possible here as direct sunlight can distort the capture process.CR Studio 2.0 is compatible with both CR Scan 01 and CR Scan Lizard, which means that no matter which Creality 3D scanner you use, you can enjoy the brand new experience of the software. It is also available with windows 10/11、MacOS 11/12 ( including M1), greatly improving the operating system compatibility.CR Studio 2.0 for Mac will be launched on June 30th. The scanner’s resolution is overhyped, with results – even printed on the best resin printer currently on the market – soft and unfocused.

As with all scanners, there are some objects that are not suitable for scanning, such as transparent, reflective, or thin objects. There are developer sprays that can help with scanning transparent or reflective objects, but I did not have any due to the short turnaround time for this review. What I like Creality says that the Lizard has “up to 0.05mm accuracy,” but I think the word they were looking for was “precision.” On top of that, “up to” is doing a lot of heavy lifting.

What is it?

The Revopoint POP 2 is an upgraded and improved version of the original Revopoint POP. Revopoint took the solid foundations of the POP and enhanced precisions, improved color capture performance, generally it’s a much easier scanner to work with overall. Bad scans can be cleaned up in editing mode or discarded entirely. You can process the scan as many times as you like.

In tow, we also see the minimum scan distance drop to 10 x 10 x 10 mm and the single capture range to 64 x 118 mm. From the numbers alone, it’s clear Revopoint has pulled out all the stops to allow users to capture small, feature-rich items and objects. This made me conclude that you may need quite a bit of practice and trial and error to scan some models. There is no speed control on the turntable. I also like the Revopoint POP 2 for the stripped-down, functional approach. It works with little fuss, pivoting from stationary to handheld mode seamlessly. And everything runs off a simple USB connection. Elsewhere, it also has a 20 x 20 x20 mm minimum scan distance geared towards smaller objects (it didn’t work well with small jewelry 3D scanning tests unfortunately), while the 150 mm maximum scan size suits most mid-size model scanning.
