Contemporary design — The rounded edges and grille fabric add a lighter and more contemporary look. On the surface these may look like a posh pair of Spektor 2s, and there are certainly some strong visual similarities. But start listening to the Oberon 1s at the end of a suitably talented system and you’ll find they’re capable of sonic feats the junior speakers only hint at. But aside from the limitations of size, they produce a quality of sound only the very best at this level can get close to. The newly developed 29 mm ultra-light soft dome tweeter used in the OBERON 3 is manufactured by DALI and has been developed specifically for the OBERON series - combining well proven technologies from our existing DALI ranges with new features. Oberon 3 can handle a max power of 150 watts RMS from the amp the whereas Oberon 1 has a max power handling value of 100 watts RMS, 50 watts less than the Oberon 3.

At the heart of the Oberon 3 drivers you'll find an SMC (Soft Magnetic Compound) disc magnet system. This highly specialised feature is designed to provide the most accurate speaker control and ultra-low levels of distortion. Featuring low-loss, wood fibre woofers that are based on DALI's reference grade speakers and a brand new, ultra-light tweeter, the Oberon 3 delivers a sound that’s closer than ever to the original. MA Bronze has a more forward speaker sound, more ‘fun’ and ‘exciting’ presentation. Probably a bit more emphasis on the highs and lows. Based on the performance of their siblings, we have high hopes for these speakers. But while they deliver an impressive scale and weight, the Oberon 3 speakers don’t have quite the all-round ability of their siblings. This is not a good amp for all setups but for dalis, I can reccomend. And to think, its only going get better with time The OBERON woofer features a wood fibre cone with a blend of fine grain paper pulp, reinforced with wood fibres, which creates a stiff, light-weight and well-behaving structure. In combination with a low-loss surround and spider suspension, this cone reproduces the micro details in the signal - unfiltered and with high accuracy. EASY TO POSITIONThe oversized 29 mm ultra-lightweight soft dome tweeter was specifically developed for the Oberon series, combining well-proven technologies from our existing Dali speakers with new features. The large size of the membrane lets the tweeter generate higher sound pressure with less excursion, keeping the voice-coil motion to a controlled minimum. The tweeter front plate near the dome has been designed with similar geometry to the Opticon and Rubicon tweeters to create the optimal working conditions for the soft dome. This results in extended frequency response, wide dispersion and low colouration. Optimised Cabinet The recommended amplifier power is between 25 and 150 watts while frequency response comes in at 47-26,000Hz. The Oberon 3’s specs are very similar to the Debut B6. Interestingly, Dali states that all its speakers – including the Oberon series – are designed not to be toed-in. “This is important as you are rarely seated directly in front of your loudspeaker when listening to music,” it says. Well, the proof will be in the listening. The Oberon 3s have a sound that I would describe as articulate, especially with human voices, with a mid-range that is a bit more tilted forward in sound compared to my Revel F26 towers. When toed in, the treble seemed a bit aggressive and taking the grilles off heightened the effect. I would recommend leaving the grilles on and doing as suggested by the manufacturer, set them up pointing straight out into the room. Though they sound bigger than their size suggests, they really don’t dig deep in the bass department. Having a sub helped fill in the bottom octave made them sound bolder and more authoritative.

Choosing speakers. This can be a very difficult task for even those of us with a lot of knowledge and experience. We reserve the right to refuse installation should our engineers think that the existing electrical or plumbing points are unsafe and in need of maintenance or if they are unable to install to existing furniture. Records the default button state of the corresponding category & the status of CCPA. It works only in coordination with the primary cookie. All I all, after this visit I have completely rethought the way I wanted to set up this room and I am going to forget about the Wharfedale evo 4.1. I may still consider the DALI Oberon 3 with a subwoofer. The 29mm ultra-light soft dome tweeter is manufactured by Dali and has been developed specifically for the Oberon series - combining well-proven technologies from our existing Dali ranges with new features. The large size of the membrane lets the tweeter generate higher sound pressure with less excursion, keeping the voice coil motion to a precise minimum. The oversized 29mm membrane is constructed based on an ultra-light wave weave fabric and is additionally optimised for a larger bandwidth in its lower frequency area. My veredict is that to my ears, all three speakers are clear and crisp. The voices and guitars sound probably as well as in my current system (but I would need more time to test). The Oberon in wall have practically no bass. The Oberon 3 and 607s have significantly more, but in either of them I would need a subwoofer or I will be looking for a new setup as soon as I start using these. Here is the converted mill and room. Note that it's top floor and above the living room the seiling goes right upto the tiled roof and has a 45 degree angle at the top as well which is not shown in the pictures very well. I'm certain this is going to be an issue but I don't move until early next year so I'm just trying get an idea for now. The second is that you don't have an existing reference point to compare speaker sounds against other than the sound from your TV. Ideally when auditioning speakers I would take my existing speakers to compare against. Audio memory is very short and can't be relied on.

Bass does not resolve as deep as the Elac Debut B6. White colour option requires careful handling. Nothing else at this price point. I looked into the newer stuff of quads and got interested in them. The 303 and 33 i can just get access to for free and try it out so that is what i meant with that. Just be real interesting hear that classic. All in all the Oberon 3 is a true showcase of Dali ideas, traditions and inventions - all wrapped in an elegant and modern design. Oberon 3 is easy to integrate into any room. Both the driver materials and geometry applied in the Oberon 3 have been selected to achieve a wide dispersion pattern in the listening area. The same principles have been applied in the design of the crossover. Oberon Series The lightweight copper-clad aluminum (CCAW) material is used for the rear of the driver and SMC is applied to the front 1 cm of the voice coil, marking the first time SMC has been used in Dali’s entry-level series. Its non-conductive magnetic properties prevent the generation of unnecessary current and distortion during operation. The Cabinet and FinishesOur Installation Service only includes connecting to existing points and fixings. This does not include installing or moving plumbing, connection points or electrics. Installing new points or moving existing points is the customer’s responsibility we can recommend local tradesmen however this will be at the customer’s expense and we not accept any liability for their work. The iron ferrite forms the lower base of the pole cylinder, toppedofwith 10 mm SMC disk to crown the pole piece. This combination minimises the negative effects of theiron, while placing the SMC disk right in the main working area of the 4-layer voice coil. This placement ensures the maximum effect from the SMC on the voice coils environment, resulting in a greatly improved constant flux field. Easy Integration Dali chose a 7" driver, as its membrane has a 15% larger dimension than the common 6½ market standard. The larger cone area allows a lower voice coil excursion at the same sound pressure level compared to a 6½ woofer. It also allows a higher maximum sound pressure level, which leads to an effortless reproduction of the dynamics in the music. The membrane terminates in a rubber surround that is chosen for its soft and very flexible properties. This gives the membrane free movement with a very low dampening effect and leaves the magnet motor to control the membrane movement. Ultra-Light Tweeter Tonally, these are nicely judged with a smooth treble that still has plenty of bite and a full-bodied presentation that sounds impressively confident and composed. That controlled attitude remains unchanged, even at higher volume levels where most rivals would start to harden up.

You’ll get better bass, mids and HF integration all in one cabinet. But do ensure you have a suitably sized room as well as enough amplification power that can accommodate a pair of floorstanders. Wood fibre cones — The stiff, lightweight structure of the reinforced wood fibre cone reproduces details that are uncoloured and highly accurate. As I mentioned I have an appointment for auditioning the DALI oberon 3 and Wharfedale evo 4.1 in a couple weeks, however that place is quite far so yesterday I managed to listen to the DALI oberon 3, the DALI oberon on wall, the B&W 607 and some other ramdom speakers they had. range is the range of input power in watts RMS that a loudspeaker is designed to handle. While using an amplifier within this range ensures the nominal performance , inputting a power that is higher than the max wattage can result in a damaged speaker. The rounded edges and rustic fabric of these new DALI front grilles add a lighter and more contemporary visual look to the OBERON series. This look is enhanced by the elegantly shaped aluminium base mounted on the two floor-standing models. The Oberon 3 is an excellent all-rounder which performs way above its price point. The fact that my wife now says the resident speakers sound somewhat “boring” shows that the Dali Oberon 3 deserve to be in your shortlist if you’re in the market for an engaging stand-mount speaker that is as musical as it is easy to use. My baseline is the system I have now, in which I use floorstanding Infinity studio monitors so I was expecting a significant difference, and I found it.
