Do you have a Power of Attorney? MoneySavingExpert.com founder Martin Lewis explains how this crucial protection works, why it's more important than a will, and how to get one in the latest episode of ITV's The Martin Lewis Money Show Live. Is space at a premium in your home? Are you looking for interior design tips to create a more spacious feel? Choosing a uniform colour for your walls and skirting boards could be the perfect solution. Dealing with mould issues caused by damp is a little more complicated because before you can select the correct remedy, you first need to find out where the damp is coming from. The inspection revealed evidence of Rising Dampness to be affecting the areas marked in red on the attached plan (I attach a copy of the plan). Moisture resistance is not the same as waterproof. Moisture resistant MDF is not a fully waterproof material- it cannot be submerged in water or used in areas where it would get very wet, like outside in the rain for example.

In particular, moisture resistant (MR) MDF sheets that are 8’ x 4’ (2440mm x 1220mm) and 10’ x 4’ (3050mm x 1220mm) are green, with larger sheet sizes being brown in colour.MDF needs to be primed to seal the MDF so that a topcoat of paint does not sink into the MDF material. Priming also allows for a quality final paint finish by creating a smooth surface on which the paint will be applied. Building and construction trades use a lot of 8’ x 4’ and 10’ x 4’ MDF sheets, so nearly all moisture resistant MDF in these sheet sizes will be green or have a green core. Whiteskirting boards are ideal for adding a fresh, contrasting finish to walls painted in bold colours, preventing the overall effectfrom being too dark. White can also act as a harmonising element in a scheme, helping to link walls and floors and to drawthe eye around the room. While white is a timeless choice for skirting boards, using other paint colours can be a reallyeffective way to achieve different looks.' White is still the most popular choice for skirting boards, and crisp white woodwork can frame a room beautifully,' says James. Height and Space: This combination can make a room feel taller. The dark skirting boards ground the space, while the light walls create an illusion of height, making the room appear more spacious and open.

We’ve seen some fantastic examples of homes that have been given a contemporary twist by pairing lightly shaded walls with darker skirting boards. This helps to make the walls feel elongated and lighter in contrast, which has the added bonus of making the room appear brighter and airier.Leaking pipes, inappropriate flooring materials and poor ventilation are all possible causes of mould on skirting boards and at the base of walls. (Image credit: Getty) How do I remove mould from skirting boards? In the past, people would think that grey skirting boards were grim, a bit sad and well...grey! However, people keen to bring elegance, a high-end look or even a zen vibe into their interiors are going all-in with this trend. If this seems a bit out there for you, think that there are many shades of grey to choose from, plus the dirt and dust on your boards would go easily unnoticed!
