Sansai - 3 Year Old Ogata Koi Yonsai - 4 Year Old Ogata Koi Gosai - 5 Year Old Ogata Koi All Ogata Koi For Sale Maturing the K1 Media bio-media is important because a delicate eco-system is naturally developing for the bacteria involved in the nitrification process. K1 Media provides the maximum active surface area for the bacteria to colonize, more than other types of static media. It is this process which removes harmful ammonia and nitrite from the water.

K1 Micro is an even smaller version of standard K1, measuring approximately 6 x 6mm. The polyethylene media has a specific wheel-like shape, with a cross-shaped central portion. Live filters can also act as organic waste producers. Some of them precipitate iron and phosphorus in the water. But beware: Live filters are not for everyone. They are not for germophobes. So, if you’re not sure about it, you can try using a bio-ball. Im also hoping to have the shed up n finished with the koi moved into a 6 x 4 x 4 vat and the filter barrel ruuning on it.... You could use this medium in any number of ways, and the only limit is your imagination. Either replace or augment existing media in filters, or build your own. Experiment with various ways of moving the medium, and consider that different methods of movement (e.g. vigorous aeration versus a gentle tumbling motion) may favour different communities to develop. Try incorporating a range of movement techniques to maximise the medium’s potential. The small size of K1 Micro makes it ideal to be used a replacement for beads in a bead filter. Not only will the vast 950m2 per m3 protected surface area maintain a bio-film that helps to improve nitrification, water quality and clarity, but K1 Micro can offer many more benefits: If you needed more filtration (i.e. more surface area on your media) just add more K1 into your barrels. There is a limit though. A better , and more scientific method, is to size the filter according to the maximum amount of fish food that it can be expected to purify. Fish food is the ultimate source of the majority of the pollutants that the filter is designed to control so this is a much more logical calculation. Deceptively simple, this meticulously engineered filter medium has huge potential for tropical freshwater and marine aquariums as well as for ponds. The ceramic ring filter is a good choice for large fish tanks. It features a large pore area, allowing water to pass freely through it. This means that the bio ring filter will capture microscopic waste and make it clear. Bio ring filters are also good for the environment in your aquarium. These products can be recharged with clean water after cleaning. They also help maintain the ecosystem’s balance by fostering beneficial bacteria and other harmful particles.

I did have 20kgs of crystal bio mixed in to the bakki but slowly replaced with bhm over time ,experience taught me that k1 or in this case micro k1 , is much better than jap matting, I have a very large, 4 bay multi bay filter, i had 1 with aerated k1, 1 with aerated micro k1 and 2 with aerated jap matting, the filter was very mature. Salt is added during the extrusion process, which is dissolved during the cooling process, leaving a rough surface on which bio-film can easily adhere. Whilst K+Media keeps the integral profile of K1 Media at its core, there is an extra layer of cells and fins around the outside of each piece that enable microscopic organisms such as Rotifers and Vorticella to thrive. This is an additional benefit as competitor media do not have such “quiet zones” that would allow these higher lifeforms of filter feeders to develop. The bacteria and organisms that form within the bio-film ensure the media delivers optimum levels of biological filtration in the moving bed, which has been proven filtration technology for many years in the fishkeeping hobby.

Q & A

Kaldnes Moving Bed process, which has been scientifically tried and tested in fish farming and waste water treatment for over 10 years, is now available for fish keepers and is exclusively distributed worldwide by Evolution Aqua. The media is engineered in a wheel shape and is slightly positively bouyant. This allows a small amount of water flow to circulate the media throughout the vessel. This flow is created with your air pump and air stones or diffuser etc.

If you have been thinking about investing in a water purification system, you may be wondering how K1 filter media will affect your water. These media are contained within a wheel-like structure made of 11mm x 7mm plastic. The large compartments of the K1 media promote the growth of healthy bacteria on the surface of the filter. The media is then placed inside your water filtration system. Thanks to their large surface for the settlement of micro-organisms (Approx. 5000m² per m³) Oase Pond Pads will remove ammonia NH3/ammonium NH4 and nitrite NO2 via nitrification with 10L of media having the the capacity to decompose approximately 200g of fish food in a 24 hour period. Thanks to their large surface for the settlement of micro-organisms (Approx. 5000m² per m³) Oase Pond Pads will remove ammon Unlike foam, matting, or other forms of static filtration media, the K1 micro media is designed to move freely within your filter. The constant chaotic movement of the air from your pump, causes the media to self clean and thus requires no maintenance. This allows the filter to reach optimum effectiveness without the disturbance of periodic cleaning, avoiding unnecessary loss of bacteria within the filter. 50 Litres of K1 micro media will handle up to 450 gramms (0.45kg) of food per day (when mature). They both look the same just one's bigger than the other basically. I only mentioned the volumes in litres for each as those were the ones stated by EA for either K1 or K1 Micro in an Eazy Pod which I thought might help with identification with out the need to measure the actual size of the media. 18 litres is going to be noticeably less than 30 litres.Anoxic filter - covered in detail greatly by Manky Sanke - my positive experience with it is covered in my thread on building un-planted anoxic filter K1 Micro Filter Media is specifically designed for use in bead filters, conventional pond filters and aquarium filters. K1 Micro has the same wheel shaped design as K1 Media, but it has an increased protected surface area of 950 m2 per m3.

There are many advantages to biological filter media. Among them are fewer chemicals and higher water quality. The best thing about bio filter media is that they are extremely easy to install. If you already have a mechanical filter, you can simply insert the bio media filter in it. This will save you money and hassle. Biological filter media is an ideal choice for fish owners who want to use their existing filter. You’ll find that Hygger bio filter media is an excellent choice. There are two main ways to use it, and combining the two can make for efficient mechanical and biological filtration. Virgin Plastic: K1, K1 Micro and K+ Medias are all made of virgin plastic (not-recycled) so that you will get the best bacterial adhesion. The K Plus media also has a mineral coating that further enhances colonization of beneficial bacteria. Increased protection for the bio-film. K1 Micro retains the bio-film within its wheel shaped structure.Being buoyant and small, this medium gets everywhere if given the chance. If using it in a sump, some form of mesh or screening is essential to keep it where it’s needed. For some applications, this won’t be a problem — it can be placed in a bead filter for pond use, for example, where it will be contained. After many years of research, Evolution Aqua have now developed a new media that not only gives class leading surface area, but also overcomes the problem of long maturation times.
