Description

As expected, the appearance in MRJ No.26 of Bill Richmond's wonderful dead-scale 4mm layout based on the main line out of Euston caused quite a stir. Here is a further selection of photographs.

Photographs of a pre-war oil depot at Maud Junction, similar to the one at Layerthorpe, taken some time in the late 1950s, possibly the very early 1960s Amongst these was Iain Rice who in 1993 along with Andy Farquarson (who introduced himself very wittily "from the armchair" in MRJ 25) left to set up "Model Railways Illustrated" for Irwell Press. This was a good magazine, but after various machinations it eventually expired towards the end of 1997. Iain Rice had shortly before left to try his own hand at publishing with his ill fated Rail Model Digest and spin offs. BR / British Railways / British Rail, detailing, goods / freight, kits, RTR / kit conversions, wagons Each modeller takes keen precision and strong passion for creating these intensely wonderfully models with fully functional trains, and therefore Model Railway Journal is the greatest magazine to compensate for this love and passion for rail modelling.

The LMS '3F' class 0-6-0T, known to generations of enthusiasts by the sobriquet 'Jinty', is an esential requirement for any LMS based layout. Peter Truman has rushed out this model to provide some balance to an otherwise 4mm dominated issue and it thus takes its place as the first completed component for the forthcoming MRJ project layout. Here Peter describes the kit and his method of construction. From issue number 34 there were significant typographical and style changes to the front cover, as illustrated by Issue number 36. These were apparently made to achieve better visual impact on the shelves of newsagents but were not to reflect any change in editorial policy. From issue number 38 Bob Barlow had sole occupancy of the editorial chair

I’ll happily browse most of the railway magazines in WHS until Mrs 4630s impatience with me becomes unbearable.buildings, engine sheds / motive power depots / MPDs, GWR / Great Western Railway, layouts, LMS / London Midland & Scottish Railway, scratchbuilding From issue number 65 in 1993 MRJ changed its cover design for a second time to the style illustrated by issue number 97 on the right. The number and range of contributors was growing, although there had also been some departures. From the following issue and Tim's accession to the editorship, the style of MRJ changed to that seen today Plenty of wagons ran load-less for part of their working life. Martyn Welch builds a wagon with working doors - a versatile model suitable for a part-loaded yard cameo.
