Drones are more specialised than regular Pathfinders. You’ll lose out on an operative that can Shoot , Markerlight , or interact with objectives all at once, but the right drone in the right place can boost your other operatives exponentially. Just remember to focus them on their purpose – a drone flying around and not doing its proper job is a big waste. Recon Sweep [1cp]– All models wholly within 6” of a table edge can make a free dash move, as long as they are wholly within 6” of one of the edges that are not your Killzone edge. Often times you’ll set up for the first turning point with this in mind, and get your moves up on either flank. On diagonal boards 6” can cover the majority of your team, so there are some very cheeky plays you can make with Recon Sweep. I generally expect to use this ploy 1-2 times a game. Pathfinder weapons with “ Pulse”in their name, such as Pulse Carbines, can be augmented by a Pulse Accelerator Drone, so look for that when outfitting your Kill Team. Saviour Protocols

Beneath, we have the last few bits in the box: the double-sided game board, the Chalnath book, the bases, as well as the Sisters of Battle and T’au Vi’orla Sept transfer sheet. I don’t think either of these are unique to this box (the Sisters one definitely isn’t – I’ve got about ten of these lying around), but I’m happy to be corrected if I’m wrong.Getting extra moves or rolls are pretty strong, so be sure to keep your Shas’ui alive! Pathfinders Rules Sidenote #1: The following two assembly steps (5. and 6.) are for the Weapons Expert Pathfinders. There are two possible equipment options for those: the Ion Rifle and the Rail Rifle. If you ever plan to play competitively, I really recommend getting another Box of Tau Pathfinders to build double up on each variant of Weapons Expert Pathfinders, depending on your opponent. Since for this part of the guide I assume you only have the Kill Team Chalnath Pathfinders, I recommend you to think about the following: Do you play casually with your friends where it’s no problem to proxy weapons? If that’s the case, you can really build them as you like – either one of each (one with Ion Rifle and one with Rail Rifle) or both with the same weapons since you can always proxy accordingly to what you need (so definitely follow the “ Rule of Cool ” – you build the models you enjoy the most visually / aesthetically). If you’re playing in a more competitive environment, it depends if that also includes tournaments. If that’s the case, I’d recommend you build the same variant two times (I’d probably go for 2 Rail Rifles in that case) and get the other two Weapons Expert Pathfinders in the additional Box of Tau Pathfinders. In the end it shouldn’t really matter if you play competitively, since sooner or later you want to buy another box to get all possible variants anyway because many if not most tournaments follow the WYSIWYG**-*ruleset.

As I did with the other guide, I’ll split this guide in two parts – the first part covering the possible options if you’ve only got the Chalnath Tau Pathfinder sprues and the second part about the assembly of the missing options with another Box of Tau Pathfinders and a Blister of Tactical Drones. In the game, the Pathfinders excel at shooting, and while they’re not at all durable fighters, their use of artificially intelligent drones give them a defensive and supportive edge that the AI luddites of other civilizations couldn’t dream of taking advantage of. An important note about ceaseless and overwatch against 7w, 5+ save models: The Ceaseless abilty on the gun means you’ll normally end up chipping in 3-4 damage. Mv1 Gun Drone Compared to the compendium teams, Pathfinder teams essentially get a whole new suite of Equipment to play with. Photon Grenades return here, but as everyone already has Markerlights and the Shas’Ui comes with a Holographic Readout built in, this team calls for all-new options. It is, however, not without its flaws: frustrating scenery builds and an at times confusing and convoluted build guide can leave you scratching your head and wondering what exactly it is you’ve done wrong at points during the build process. But once everything is finished and put together, the results can’t be argued with. The operative would still count as performing the action for all rules purposes. For example, if it performed it during its activation, it would not be able to perform the action again during that activation. As a big fan of the Adepta Sororitas and a former T’au Empire collector, I am absolutely psyched to get into the good stuff in this box. T’au Pathfinder Squad

Pathfinder Drone operatives offer powerful bonuses to their Kill Team, but it comes with a few disadvantages: They can’t perform mission actions, they’re worse at controlling objectives, they don’t benefit from cover as well as other operatives, and they mostly can’t wear equipment. They also measure line of sight differently, since they have a near-360 degree field of vision from their discs rather than eyes. Pulse Weapons

The aforementioned Movement rules allow you to push flanks and open up new lines of fire across the killzone. Emp Grenade [2ep] – a frag grenade with lethal X, where X is the save of the targeted models. Since you generally take the grenadier you won’t often pay for this. Generally I’d use this on saves of 4+ or better and skip it against worse saves.
