They will be still. Rabbits don’t move around while asleep, though they can fall asleep in many different types of position. Rabbits are crepuscular, meaning they are active at dawn and dusk. This is when rabbits eat, play, exercise, and generally have the most energy. But they also have short energy bursts in between sleeping periods. Most people feel like they can only get proper rest if they sleep in the same bed and at the same time. Well, that’s not the case with rabbits! They can fall asleep pretty much anywhere as long as that spot is safe, relatively soft, and a bit dark. Wild bunnies often snooze in burrows (dug out “bunkers”). If they find a similar setup indoors (a dimly lit, cushy area), best believe they’ll fancy it over other spots in the house. First up, there’s no doubt that these hand painted Sleepy Friends characters are some of the cutest tonies we have seen. The girls loved the figures even before they realised they were tonies – loving their relaxed ‘floppy’ body stance and the fact that they were clearly content and fast asleep.

Their nose stops twitching. Rabbits’ noses don’t usually twitch in their sleep. The more alert a rabbit is, the faster the nose will twitch. Rabbits also sleep in two main phases. The first snooze occurs from late morning to afternoon, and the second is in the middle of the night. The rest of the time, your bun will be nibbling on food, napping or relaxing. You might think your rabbit never sleeps because they never close their eyes, but in reality they’re sneaking a nap right in front of you. Rabbits can, and often do, sleep with their eyes open. They sleep with their eyes closed too, but usually rabbits will only close their eyes when they are sleeping if they feel very safe and comfortable. Tire your rabbit out. Allow your rabbit several hours of exercise before bed. If it tires itself out in the evening, then it’ll be more likely to relax at night. But how rabbits sleep is an evolutionary adaptation because they are prey animals. It’s “safer” for wild rabbits to forage for food, burrow, and socialize when it’s dawn and twilight. Partly it can depend on the weather. In cold conditions, rabbits are more likely to curl up into a ball when sleeping to keep warm. In hot weather, your bunny may stretch out as much as possible to keep cooler. Do rabbits like to sleep with other rabbits?

A baby rabbit, whether wild or domesticated, will sleep 20 or more hours a day. It nurses to sleep once daily. As the kit grows, they’ll gradually sleep less and less. What Do Rabbit Sleeping Positions Mean?

Rabbit’s Dreams:

In fact, rabbits take little naps all throughout the day and night, and if they feel safe enough or very tired, they may sleep for a longer period.

This is an evolutionary mechanism first seen in wild European rabbits. Dawn and dusk are when the sun is lowest in the sky. This is when visibility is the poorest for both nocturnal and diurnal predators.

Understanding your rabbit's feelings

As rabbits are prey animals, they are naturally inclined to remain alert in most environments. Their instincts tell them that a predator could appear at any time. Your rabbit likely won’t sleep with its eyes closed until it has established a strong bond with you. Even then, some rabbits will still prefer to sleep with their eyes open. How Can You Tell If Your Rabbit Is Sleeping? When your bun is sleeping, their breathing will slow down and their whole body will melt into the floor and fully relax. Snoring
