Description

For the past century, what's left of mankind has hidden in a giant three-walled city, trapped in fear of the bizarre, giant humanoids known as the Titans. Little is known about where they came from or why they are bent on consuming humankind, but the sudden appearance of an enormous Titan is about to change everything... What I liked: The idea of learning more about the titans is interesting. I also like the contrast between AoT BIG cast and this very small cast. The expedition outside the wall was Eren's chance to prove himself. But it failed, and the Female Titan is free once more! With his squad dead, Eren faces a royal summons. Will Mikasa and Armin have to betray their king to save their friend? And can they discover the female Titan's identity before she kills again? The Survey Corps has overthrown the Royal Government and swept away the tyranny of the king. The next step: Move to retake Wall Maria, with the help of a newly-discovered metallic ore and Eren's miraculous Titan hardening powers. But as humanity pulls together, its enemies also unite beyond the Walls… now that the Beast Titan has joined Reiner and Bertolt, what havoc will they wreak?

Attack on Titan, Volume 1 by Hajime Isayama, Paperback

However it does follow the theme of suffering and redemption that is very prolific in the main series. It follows a boy cut from the womb of his mother after she is eaten and spewed up by a Titan, he's seen as an oddity and abomination due to his origin and is thrown in a cell. I'll be honest this part of the story is pretty depressing as he is submitted to beatings and neglect when he seems as human as you or I. Come prepared: if you read Isayama first, this story will feel jarring. It’s sanctioned by Isayama and Kodansha, but it’s written and drawn by other creators. It’s all canon, but it’s stylistically different. Personally, this didn’t bother me at all. From what I have seen, however, this manga is promising. The art is vivid, and brings to mind the scattered images in the light novel by Ryo Suzukaze. Given that the illustrator is different for the manga than the LN, this was a great job on his part to capture the spirit of the illustrations in the LN. Determined to protect his beloved home of Paradis, Eren uses the Founding Titan’s power in an attempt to wipe out the rest of humanity. As the droves of Titans press on, Eren, long unrecognizable as a friend, a brother, a savior, has become indiscernible from a devil… Now, Mikasa, Armin, and the surviving members of the Survey Corps must band together with their sworn enemies– Marleyan soldiers and 104th defectors–to save the world.

Thanks to Eren's timely arrival, the 104th has managed to turn the tide at Wall Rose. But this momentary victory forces two more traitors into a corner—and the identity of the Titans who have been destroying the walls is revealed! What can Eren do against the two most dangerous monsters humanity has ever faced? And who else might be an enemy in disguise? The truth revealed through the memories of Grisha's journals shakes all of Eren's deepest beliefs. There is no rugged but free land beyond the Walls—there is a whole other world, equally full of oppression and war. Suddenly, the ambitions that have animated the Survey Corps for generations seem small and naïve. What is there left to fight for? Verdict Not for everyone but definitely worth a look. Recommended for shounen manga readers looking for a fresh twist on the genre and fans of horror-survival stories in the vein of Aliens or The Walking Dead.—Neil Derksen, Pierce Cty. Lib. Syst., Tacoma A special edition of this volume in the English release comes bundled with the Ilse's Notebook: Notes from a Scout Regiment Member OVA. [41]Commander Erwin has finally come to a decision: Putting their own wealth and position ahead of the survival of humanity, the royal government is no longer fit to lead. To execute their leader's most audacious plan yet, Eren and Krista will have to put themselves in peril yet again, and Armin, Mikasa, and the rest of the Survey Corps will have to turn from humanity's guardians into traitors. If they fail this time, they'll face not a Titan's gaping mouth, but the gallows... The Survey Corps sets a cunning trap to capture the mysterious Abnormal Titan that broke through their ranks. As Armin tries to determine the grotesque creature’s identity and purpose, Scouts report Titans closing in on all sides! But they don’t seem to be after the humans—instead they’re targeting the Titan! You couldn't save your mom because you weren't strong enough to do so. As for me, I couldn't stand and face the titan because I simply didn't have the courage! Forgive me... Forgive me.”

Before the Fall answers a lot of unanswered questions - what has the political spectrum behind the walls looked like, and how did it lead to the current political decay in the story? How were anti-titan weapons created? What does life look like behind the walls for people who aren’t military? How do certain cults and factions come to be - the titan worshippers and wall worshippers? Etc.Eren is still resting from his brutal fight with the Female Titan, when word reaches the interior that the impossible has happened: Wall Rose itself has been breached, and Titans are pouring through the gap! The emergency casts new urgency over Armin and Hange's questions about how the walls were built, and what humanity can do to restore them... If you're reading this with hopes of finding out unknown truths of the titans you'll be disappointed, likewise if you're after the high octane action of the main series you're in the wrong place. Despite losing countless lives in the battle against the Beast Titan, what’s left of the Survey Corps arrives at the doorstep of Eren’s childhood home, where the truth behind the Titans is finally revealed. There, in the basement, they find three journals belonging to Eren’s father, which recount his dark childhood—and an even darker history—beyond the Walls. The memories archived in Grisha’s journals shake all of Eren’s beliefs, and he soon learns that there is no free land beyond the Walls—but rather, a whole other world equally full of oppression and war. Now Titans aren’t the only enemy the Survey Corps has to worry about, and with the horrific truth now known, just what sort of future awaits them?

Attack on Titan: Colossal Edition 1 - Goodreads Attack on Titan: Colossal Edition 1 - Goodreads

Before the Fall takes a very different approach to storytelling than the main series. The high stakes action, intricate world-building, thrilling political undertones, masterful use of mystery and foreshadowing aren't really anywhere to be seen here. That's not to say the prequel is bad, it just tells a much more personal and self-contained narrative that serves to flesh out the lesser explored elements of the main series such as who was the first person to ever kill a titan, how the survey corps were formed and how the three dimensional odm gear they use to kill titans was invented. mehه. :D Ama basılıyorken atlanamazdı tabi, umarım Sungeki no Kyojin'ine kadar basılır. :D Rather than themes of kill or be killed, the world is cruel, lose your humanity to fight, etc. Before the Fall centers on themes of family, love, and emotion - all in a soft boy! I love a male character who is true to his feelings. After being captured by Rod Reiss, the rightful king, Eren finally learns the terrible truth behind how he acquired his Titan powers—and the depth of his father's crimes. After reconvening with Levi, Erwin, and the rest, the Survey Corps succeeds in overthrowing the Royal Government before moving on to the next step in their plan: to use Eren's Titan hardening powers to retake Wall Maria, and defeat the Titans once and for all. But the closer the Corps gets to the Shiganshina District gates, and to the mysterious basement of Eren's old family home, the more trouble they encounter. With the Colossus Titan, the Armored Titan, and the Beast Titan awaiting them, saving humanity will require the Corps to sacrifice more than they have ever before...Will the mysteries of the world of the Titans be solved at last, or do more questions await Eren, Erwin, and the rest of the Survey Corps...? Kuklo was a decent character, but after he meets Sharle he mostly just feels like a generic Shounen protagonist. He's not bad, just mundane and doesn't really fit in with the overall complex cast, especially next to the secondary protagonist Sharle who ended up accomplishing so much. Some of the world-building doesn't line up with the main series such as titans being able to walk at night and them disappearing the second they're killed, but most of the inconsistencies were minor things that weren't enough to completely destroy the immersion. The limited scope of the plot and setting also made the pacing feel somewhat tedious at times because most of the drama is never taken beyond the walls of the cities, but it also made room for more personal time between the characters living out their daily lives together and really learning to put their heads together to help form a better world for humanity's last survivors.
