The Rights of Man pub named after the seminal work by local author and political theorist Thomas Paine is certainly one that should be on your radar. Fifteenth Century Bookshop A staple of the town, the shop specialising in secondhand books and has a particularly large selection of antiquarian children’s books. The problem with having your event be a success in its first year is that your expectations for year two are evenhigher and so is your stress level!I know that the book festival will be a delight for all of the attendees, but for those who cannot make it, I hope it will make you see marginalised people, advocate for them, make space for them and remind you to be the change that you want to see. So, we have a whole evening on 22 nd June dedicated to Windrush. We have food, DJ, an exhibition, actors and of course authors. But truly the VIP guests will be our senior Caribbean citizens who will be telling their stories of triumphs and heartbreaks for that time. As a Windrush descendant this event sits close to my heart and my own dad and mum will be among the VIPs.

Not enough praise is lavished on Oxfam Bookshops (and UK charity shops in general) for the good they do for readers and the literary world. A staple of The Lanes in Brighton, Dave’s Comics is one of the most iconic Brighton bookshops; a reliable linchpin of the Brighton bookish and nerd communities. While its original founder — the famous Dave — is no longer with us, Dave’s legacy lives on in this magical comic book store.What makes the Amnesty Bookshop one of the most iconic Brighton bookshops is its neon pink walls. Bright, gay, and colourful, Brighton’s Amnesty Bookshop offers as much of an allure as the vibrant Dave’s Comics does. When you picture an independent bookshop, it’s likely that what springs to mind closely resembles Kemptown Bookshop in Brighton. This is your quintessential UK independent bookshop. This was taken onboard by our excellent waiter and a main course plus dessert were delivered in good time. Just an hour outside of London, this easily accessible coastal city is a wonderful place to spend some time and go book shopping. Take your new read to Brighton Beach, Brighton Pavilion Park, or one of the many bright, independent cafes with seaside views.

A few more child friendly options on the menu would be great - though the team were amazing at accommodating us regardless. Located in Hove, City Books proudly calls itself “Brighton and Hove’s Largest and Liveliest Independent Bookshop”. It’s very hard to argue with that, and why would you want to? Almost all our events were sold out. We had the most diverse line-up that I have ever seen in a festival, and I was an event manager for 15 years. But the highlight for me was how many people came that had never been to a book festival before. Much like the Oxfam Bookshop, the Amnesty Bookshop is another series of second-hand bookshops around the UK. You’ll find them in Cambridge, Bristol, Norwich, and, of course, Brighton.The staff at Dave’s are friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. Whether you’re a connoisseur or a newbie in the world of comics and manga, they can help you out, make suggestions, and offer some enthusiastic conversation. Due to traffic we arrived 20 minutes late for our reservation and further explained to the greeter that as we were going on to the theatre we were a little pushed for time. We can offer a wide range of management services and parking solutions for your car park, ranging from Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) systems and barriers, to enforcement and patrolling.

A recent addition to the Brighton bookshop scene, opeing in 2019 thanks to a sucessful crowdfunding campaign meant the owner Ruth could convert her living room into what is now The Feminist Bookshop. Stretching for miles along the front of the city, the pebbly beach is the perfect place for a family day out. Speaking of core team I cannot really talk about the festival without spending a too short moment thanking the amazing 10 women who make the book festival possible. It really does take so much work to make this happen and I know that despite all the laughter we have had over this last 9 months there has also been a lot of late nights and long days to make it all come together. Not to mention those 5 days in June being the longest five days ever.
