So when I was recently given a record that had once belonged to my mother, ‘Mystery Train’ on the HMV label, the re-issued Sun Recording, sold with Elvis’s contract to RCA, and it was in it’s terrible 60 year old uncleaned state, I took this test worthy opportunity to see just what this relatively cheap record cleaning system could really do (again). I would stay away from any cleaning liquid which results in some goo on your stylus. you can always "reclean" the record, but doing the same with stylus is much more difficult. I see you use a vacuum method to get the fluid off, but for those can't afford such a machine the Knosti is great. In short, because although the RCM does a far better job of drying the disc, I think the Knosti does a better job of washing. Extremely easy to maintain, as the filter can be removed in just a few steps and completely dismantled for cleaning

However the Knosti did a fantastic job of cleaning one LP which my (much more expensive!) record cleaning machine had been unable to clean properly.I've had mine for about five or six years and am going to invest in another one soon, as the original is wearing a bit. I already have a vacuum record cleaning machine (Moth) but I wanted the Knosti because I wanted a way of immersing the records for a while in a record cleaning solution, hoping for better results. I also think the brushes inside the Knosti (camel hair, I read somewhere) stand a better chance of getting inside the grooves than on any disc washing brush I've been able to find so far. I would say that vinyl cleaning is divided into three main categories: manual cleaning, cleaning via a RCM (Record Cleaning Machine) based upon a vacuum system and the high-end option, the ultrasonic cleaner.

The majority of people agree that the Knosti cleaning fluid isn’t the best. It actually slows down the entire process. On top of that, the device can only wash eight records at a time. With the Spin-Clean, it’s all about speed. It can wash up to 50 records per cycle, whereas the Knosti Disco-Antistat can only wash eight.

Really? It’s too much hassle and I wouldn’t bother. Depending on the grimy nature of your records, I would use the bath liquid until its too contaminated to use, and then dispose of the same. Then refill with new liquid. In between, to prevent airborne contamination, by all means cover the bath with a cloth or, a better alternative, shape a large piece of kitchen foil over the bath entrance which will be spotlessly clean (a cloth might not be), can be shaped into a rough bath shape and has an element of rigidity and weight so will stay put when the Disco-Antistat is not in use. With our special cleaner, the record is treated antistatically and thus permanently prevented from renewed soiling by adhering dust. In conclusion, the Spin-Clean washer is the best choice for vinyl record collectors and/or record store owners. Who Should Get the Knosti Disco-Antistat Record Washer? That said, I’d do a dry run, if you can, for each and every record you clean in case there are variations in label position and size. See below for advise on storing the bath liquid elsewhere while you do this. On average, I would suggest leaving about half a centimetre of brush poking out of the liquid. That is, have half a centimetre of brush exposed and dry before you see the uppermost level of bath liquid. The Tonar Knosti Disco-Antistat Ultrasonic vinyl washing machine combines high-tech ultrasonic cleaning with the proven goat hair brush system. This ensures gentle, groove-deep cleaning of your records and an audible improvement in the sound image. During operation, the special anti-static cleaning fluid is permanently clarified by a filter system and dirt particles are filtered out to minimise impurities in the fluid and thus achieve the best possible cleaning result. My turntable also drowned in the floods but a good mate has fixed it. I will get it next week and add a play test to this report. The old Linn Sondek with its solid plinth is a tough bird These microscopic bubbles implode with such force that contaminants adhering to surfaces are dislodged. Here, too, the record is immersed in a basin, but that’s it for the similarities to previous solutions. Automatic record washing machine Some features of the Tonar Knosti Disco-Antistat Ultraclean: The cleaning time can be conveniently adjusted to the degree of soiling of the record, supported by a functional display. A clearly visible progress indicator informs about the cleaning status at a glance. Disco-Antistat Ultraclean Concentrate, works deep into the groove and cleans your records gently and thoroughly even from stubborn dirt.

Another issue though, is that the Generation 2 clamp fits the generation 1 tank. The only difference is that the Gen2 tank has special screws for flaps to keep the clamp and crank in place as you spin it. But this is not important as you can just hold down the clamp with your finger as you crank-spin it. quarts distilled (not demineralized) water from grocery/drug/automotive store. (Supplied by end-user) The Disco-Antistat cleaned them right up, almost perfect in most attempts, so much so that i feel encouraged to go digging in 2nd hand shops again knowing i can clean them up like new. After using the Generation 2, there is the slightest of scraping occurring on the inside of the tank, but this seems to be only on the “arrow” picture that is embossed on the clamp, and not the actual clamp itself (as you can see from the video). can be cleaned with a few drops of plain (no additives) Ivory or Ajax dish liquid with distilled water. Oh, don't freak out, the record holding base is nested in the bottom of the big piece (I didn't notice until I looked at the instructions). The cleaner recipe as linked and included recipe printout works fine. Distilled water from supermarket, Methanol from Home Depot/whereever, Isopropyl 90% from pharmacy/chemist and scentless (Free and Clear) detergent from wherever (you should use that stuff anyways).
