Of course, you could buy from multiple brands, but that will require more research that takes up valuable time. I hope all you lot using diesel / kerosene / white spirit are collecting it in a suitable container and disposing of it correctly at your local tip rather than lettting it soak in to the ground or pouring it into the drains.

i think ill try some once ive used the rest of this virosol up!ive still got 7 or 8 litres left out of 20L i bought a few years ago! jamjar of white spirit/petrol/diesel. Dirt cheap, no detergent so no need to rinse the chain before oiling, just put it bakc on the bike and let it dry. Some roadies make a mix of petrol and oil for this, the petrol evoapoates leaving a very thin coating of oil. For my MTB I use Screw Fix No Nonsense Degreaser (use diluted). I've never bothered with my road bike though - just wipe the chain. On a windy day last week when the heavens opened and dumped loads of hailstones on my head I had to cover my eyes with sunglasses from the giant hailstones and somehow it still dripped down from window above behind my glasses into my eye.IPA is a solvent, it dissolves grease (and water, and anything else) into itself, so you can wipe it away.

Both will do the same job, but degreaser works better at stripping large amounts of gunk off drivechains as the degreaser and oil form an emulsion, which you can then wash away. If you put IPA in a chain cleaner you’d just be diluting the oil and it still wouldn’t wash off. IPA works best for removing small amounts of gunk, or where you don’t want to leave a trace of soap/water afterwards for example cleaning calipers and levers after bleeding brakes, or sloshing around in suspension forks to remove the last traces of the old oil and any dirt.Putoline chain wax is the business, I’ve not come across anything else that comes close. On the other hand, you’re more likely to burn your house down while applying it than you are with other lubes.

I am a bit restricted with what i can say as a mod on here but if i wasn't then this post would be full of swear wordsDegreaser is a surfactant, so it allows the grease/oil to form microscopic globules in the water, which you then wash or wipe away. It’s essentially concentrated soap. Power tools can sell for a decent price, which has opened up the doors to cheap and fake tools coming onto the market to maximise profit. The issues we have with such tools are that they may not provide the power needed to complete the job given. Also, many of them are made with flimsy materials that could fall apart easily with the vibrations of usage. The best-case scenario is that the tool will stop working, but in the worst case, they can explode, burst into flame or shatter over the user. Switched to this after previously using white spirit to de-gunk drivechains. It works really well and is cheap. Been experimenting with and using all sorts of different chems for ages now finding the best for each job
