If you’ve ever heard a person talk in their sleep, it sounds like they are mumbling. Yup, that’s kinda what your sleeping bunny does too. If your rabbit is very still and seems to be looking at you, then they might be sneaking a nap right in front of you. Rabbits sleep with their eyes open while still on alert, but they’ll often shut their peepers when feeling safe and secure with their surroundings. As a prey animal, it’s in their nature to be on the lookout for predators even when sleeping. Dead bunny flop

A stressed-out rabbit may wake up frequently, reducing the length and quality of their sleep, which may have harmful effects on their health Rabbits are most active when it is a little bit darker outside (this is to help protect them from predators), but this does not mean that the rabbit is going to be running around throughout the day either. A rabbit snoring is perfectly normal; however, it can be a sign of something serious if you notice: Rabbits don’t always have real dreams while dozing because they don’t sleep deeply. However, it is thought that they can have microdreams, which are short periods of light sleep where they see brief, strange images or sensations.Interestingly, rabbits are not true hibernators. This means that they do not sleep through the entire winter. However, they will sleep more during the winter months than they do during the summer months. The rabbits were in deep sleep about two-thirds of the time asleep. So about seven or eight hours a day. This behavior is instilled even in domesticated rabbits that have been bred in captivity. Common Rabbit Daily Routine and Sleeping Pattern

Being prey animals, rabbits have evolved to be cautious and alert. In the wild, rabbits are constantly on the lookout for predators and have to be ready to run at a moment’s notice. In actual fact, this is a compliment from your rabbit. They will only flop over and go to sleep if they fully trust you and feel comfortable with you. If your rabbit is keeping you up at night, there are a few things you can do to help them (and yourself) get some rest. One option is to provide your rabbit with a hiding place where they feel safe and secure. In most cases, a rabbit will sleep with his eyes open. But if he feels really safe, you may catch your rabbit with his eyes shut (either halfway or completely). If you believe that your rabbit sleeping habits are not normal (i.e. they seem to be sleeping too little or too much), then this could indicate a serious health issue. In that case, we believe that you should take the rabbit to the vet as soon as possible. They will continue being active late into the evening, and will then nap for a few hours until dawn to repeat their day all over again. On average, they can sleep up to 11 hours a day. About a tenth of the time the rabbits were in what the scientists termed ‘paradoxical sleep’ – this is similar to REM sleep in humans, and may be an indication that this is when the bunnies are dreaming! See below for more on this. Rabbits in the wild are constantly on alert for danger, and their noses twitch so they can always smell for scents around them. The fact that your rabbit’s nose isn’t twitching is a good sign that the rabbit is comfortable and asleep.
