Milli is a compassionate and passionate writer who puts women squarely at the heart of her endeavours’ A brilliant riposte to all the ways women are encouraged to approach childbirth with fear and deference, Hill’s book leaves the reader not just well-informed, but with a renewed sense of pride in the power of the female body” The Positive Birth Company is on a mission to support you from the moment you start thinking about planning for a baby, to the day they eventually go to school. We do this through life-changing online courses, incredible online communities and access to some of the best minds in the fields of birth, health and psychology. Our resources are affordable and accessible to all, no matter where you are or how busy your life is.

Just so happened that I had to be induced as well because my baby decided it was to comfy inside me and wouldn't come out. To Milli Hill this is the worst thing that could ever happen. Oh no! Intervention! I should have waited and let baby come on its own! (Even though my baby was 9lbs when born, I don't even want to think about the possible weight if I'd have waited!) There are so many reasons for being induced when your overdue but Milli Hill says it's best to let nature takes it course. Overall, the book is informative especially for me right now as I’m 37 weeks pregnant, it was an interesting read, and although I don’t agree with all what the author believes is right, it was interesting to see the point of view of the other side and the logic behind it, and may be one day (not in this pregnancy for sure) I might give not medicated birth a go!Birth plans are essential to a positive birth experience, not only because they clearly document your wishes, but also because in the process of making them, you can become better informed about your many choices. What you need to know about exercise in pregnancy from Charlie Launder, author of Bumps and Burpees Milli Hill is a writer, feminist and freelance journalist with a passion for reframing the narrative around women’s bodies. As well as The Positive Birth Book, she is also the author of Give Birth like a Feminist and My Period (for preteen girls). From 2012 to 2021 she founded and ran the Positive Birth Movement, a global network of antenatal discussion groups aimed at improving birth and giving women better access to support and information. Please note that the icons are for your private use only and may not be shared, sold or reproduced without written permission from the publisher Pinter & Martin. This book has completely changed how I look at birth and removed a lot of fear and uncertainty around labour.

The icons represent every possible birth choice in every setting, from home birth to caesarean. There are some blank cards included too, because every birth is unique. You’ll also find a guide inside with suggestions to get you started. When it comes to pregnancy and birth books, I've read them all. (Ok, not all, but MANY. MANY MANY.) And therefore, I have both many points of comparison, and a lot of knowledge I am privy to that I believe is incredibly useful for mothers-to-be. Which basically makes me have very high standards. The whole gist of both the class and this book is the idea that we, as pregnant women, have the power to give birth to our babies and to have a birthing experience that can be positive regardless of the decisions we make or the unexpected variables that may be encountered. Home birth or hospital birth, epidural or pain relief free, vaginal or cesarean, riddled with complications or completely smooth sailing... Whatever ends up happening, childbirth is a better experience the more informed you are ahead of time about your choices, so that no matter what happens, you can advocate for yourself and your baby.A rallying cry for women everywhere…everyone should read this book and look at childbirth through a feminist lens.” Hypnobirthing is an evidence-based approach to birth that seeks to empower women and birthing people with knowledge, practical tools and support, enabling them to have a positive birth experience, however they choose to bring their baby into the world. There were a couple of other ideas that I thought were absent. I can't think of them off the top of my head and hope to add them here next time I read this book.

Milli Hill is a bestselling non-fiction author, freelance journalist, feminist, creative psychotherapist, mum of three, and author of the popular blog The Mule. Whether you plan to have your baby in hospital, in a birth centre, at home or by elective caesarean, this essential, non-judgemental guide shows you how to raise your expectations and have the best possible birth experience. In case anyone is uncertain about what you’re “allowed” to do when giving birth, Hill spells it out: stop asking for permission, recognize that your experience matters–quite a bit–and demand respect. Researchers, activists, and journalists have been raising alarms about inappropriate and even abusive maternity treatment for decades, yet it persists. Hill joins the chorus with a loud call to action for feminists: this is your issue, too.”It was a Christmas gift from a friend, and I started reading it thinking I wasn't the kind of person for this kind of things, tbh. But actually I quite enjoyed the act of laying down in bed and relaxing with this little book. Until it irritated the shit out of me.

THIS is the book I wish I had been gifted as a child! A must-have for every girl entering womanhood, and as crucial as any biology textbook for every boy too, My Period is set to help annihilate the stigma, shame and medical negligences linked to our periods, and help everyone understand on a truthful, honest and kind level, the physical, factual happenings of what happens to our female bodies every month, for so many decades of our lives.” We are on a mission to show people everywhere that birth can be better. And not just better, but amazing! My Period is perfectly written for girls going through puberty, in a language that they will understand. A no nonsense, essential guide for young girls that explains EVERYTHING they need to know. Highly recommended!” Essential information about your pelvic floor, core and postnatal incontinence by Nikki Bergen, creator of the Belle Method, and Luce Brett, author of PMSL

Pinter & Martin’s reputation for bringing clear thinking to complex subjects, coupled with a team of talented authors and a wide range of thought-provoking titles, ensures that the Why It Matters series is an invaluable guide to the ins-and-outs of modern parenting. A great read: honest, lively, fresh and helpful. This book puts women in the driving seat which is key to positive change.” The ones I didn’t give are for 1) the author is extremely bias towards natural unmediated home birth, which is for sure not for everyone! For instance, I will be Relaxed to have a hospital birth and I will be extremely stressed if I had to give birth at home! And it is the case for all other birth options. So it is not one size fits all. However, the three stars I gave are for 1) all the information and facts in it. 2) it shows you your rights and that you have the right to accept or reject almost anything! 3) it was written in a very simple easy to read language. Our hypnobirthing classes are designed to be a fully comprehensive antenatal course, so there is no need for you to attend any others unless you wish to. We run both in person courses in various locations across the UK and online Zoom courses which you can attend from the comfort of your own home.
