Description

of … valley of vision—rather, "respecting the valley of visions"; namely, Jerusalem, the seat of divine revelations and visions, "the nursery of prophets" [Jerome], (Isa 2:3; 29:1; Eze 23:4, Margin; Lu 13:33). It lay in a "valley" surrounded by hills higher than Zion and Moriah (Ps 125:2; Jer 21:13). This is a message about the Valley of Vision. What is happening? Why are all the people of the city celebrating on the roofs of the houses? Someone might ask, “Why produce an album inspired by the prayers of a bunch of dead guys?” That’s an easy one. Puritans like John Bunyan, Thomas Watson, Richard Baxter, and Isaac Watts knew their hearts, their Bibles, and their God much better than we do.

The fate of Shebna is a warning to all of us who dare to lead. God gives leaders their positions. We shouldn’t assume we’re special because of it. In many cases, it’s a test that we often fail. For anyone in similar shoes, looking for direction on prayer, I would immediately recommend the Valley of Vision as well as to become very familiar with how the Westminster Larger & Shorter Catechism handle the Lord’s Prayer as a guide for prayer. And they cried unto the children of Dan. And they turned their faces, and said unto Micah, What aileth thee, that thou comest with such a company? Eliakim was not yet promoted in Isaiah’s vision, ( I will fasten him as a peg, Isaiah 22:23), Shebna is the peg that was fastened at the moment but was about to be removed, not only from power but from the country. He will be removed and cut down and fall. The Valley of Vision is a collection of prayers, 195 in all, compiled by Arthur Bennett from various men from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, including John Bunyan, Thomas Watson, David Brainerd, Isaac Watts, Augustus Toplady, Philip Doddridge, and Charles Spurgeon, as well as others. These short, devotional, poetic prayers are a wonderful way to start and/or end each day. They would serve well for private, personal devotions and meditation, or for family worship.gone up to the housetops] cf. ch. Isaiah 15:3; Jdg 16:27; Nehemiah 8:16. The flat roofs of the houses are thronged by excited citizens keeping holiday, perhaps watching some public spectacle. The prophet, wandering disconsolate through the streets, ironically inquires the reason of this unseasonable demonstration. The compiled prayers are from the works of Thomas Shepherd, Thomas Watson, Richard Baxter, John Bunyan, Isaac Watts, William Williams, Philip Doddridge, William Romaine, David Brainerd, Augustus Toplady, Christmas Evans, William Jay, Henry Law, and Charles Haddon Spurgeon. The burden of the valley of vision. What aileth thee now, that thou hast wholly gone up to the house-tops? But instead, joy and gladness, slaying oxen and killing sheep, eating meat and drinking wine: “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!” Then it was revealed in my hearing by the LORD of hosts, “Surely for this iniquity, there will be no atonement for you, even to your death,” says the Lord GOD of hosts.

These prayers reveal a personal, humble, passionate relationship with an awesome God, a living Savior, and an active Spirit. Reading their meditations inspires us to pursue the same level of reality as we worship God. THE burden of the valley of vision. What aileth thee also, that thou too art wholly gone up to the housetops? I’m ashamed to say that it’s taken me so long to read and utilize “The Valley of Vision”. I have distinct memories of my dad reading through the Valley of Vision for times of family worship on family vacations as recent as a few years ago. I’ve seen it everywhere with everyone but for some reason it’s just now made it into my hands. And let me tell you, there is a reason why it’s so popular. He removed the protection of Judah. You looked in that day to the armor of the House of the Forest, you also saw the damage to the city of David, that it was great, and you gathered together the waters of the lower pool.I can’t help but recommend this for your family worship time. We teach our children how to pray, and in learning how to pray from the puritans we’d set them on down a pretty good path. I’d also recommend it to you as high tier birthday present, anniversary present, and gift for your elders. Chalk grassland restoration, an extensive events programme, new community trails, engaging with schools and conserving ancient monuments, are just a handful of the successful projects that were undertaken. Although now completed, the legacy of VOV and the hard work of the team, landowners and local organisations, continues. Discover more about the scheme in the Valley of Visions magazine and the Community Trails and Medway Valley Rail Trails leaflets continue to provide a great way to explore and enjoy the Medway Gap. Community Trails I’ve shared another prayer from this book in this post, and this book is a resource I think should be in the hands of every Christian. Because Eliakim saw his service to the LORD as a priority, he was given great authority. He was granted ownership of a key prophetic privilege and title. And he was given The key of the house of David, to which God said, “I will lay on his shoulder.” He will surely turn violently and toss you like a ball into a large country; there you shall die, and there your glorious chariots shall be the shame of your master’s house. So I will drive you out of your office, and from your position, he will pull you down.'” I will fasten him as a peg in a secure place, and he will become a glorious throne to his father’s house.Quite possibly the best book I've read all year. These prayers are amazing. In Mudhouse Sabbath, Lauren Winner talks about the benefit of a formal prayer book. She notes that her free-form prayers often devolve into narcissism (this has definitely been my experience), but that the formal, written prayers refocus her on God. This book is a great example of the benefit of written prayers. My own free-form prayers often send me down a rabbit hole of my own personal worries and burdens--worries and burdens that I am right to share with God. But I think every one of the prayers in this book contains the Gospel, and when I read them, I am preaching the Gospel to myself. Instead of bringing my problems to God for Him to change, I find my focus shifting to my own sin, God's grace, Christ's sacrifice, and my own undeserved salvation. This is a must read for every Christian! This book will inform your mind, stir your heart, and motivate your hands to be diligent and faithful in living every moment to the glory of God. This is, apart from the Bible, the most helpful book ever to come into my hands. I use it everyday and am continually pointed to the Scriptures, and, thus, the God of the Scriptures. You numbered the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses you broke down to fortify the wall, you also made a reservoir between the two walls for the water of the old pool. The burden of the valley of vision. What aileth thee now, that thou art wholly gone up to the housetops?
