Description

This book is called A Pinch of Magic and I borrowed it of my headmaster and it is about three girls how are all normal until something happens, no SPOILERS! I’m about half way through it and I’m already predicting stuff that I think is gonna happen! It’s really good and if you read my last review about Keeper of the Lost Cities andstarted reading it you would like A Pinch of Magic by Michelle Harrison! Also if you like Harry Potter, again no SPOILERS!... Read Full Review This book was amazing! It's a chilling and thrilling story that will keep you on the edge of your seat, but it also has a lot of humour. It takes a while for the reader to get an idea of what the book will be about, and when it is set, but after that it is a very good book. It's great for lovers of The Aveline Jones books.... Read Full Review I really enjoyed this book and I did not want to put it down. It was absolutely thrilling - I felt as though I was in the story going on the adventures with the three sisters. This is a very well-written book, particularly the way in which Michelle Harrison describes the feelings and emotions of the three sisters - there is a fantastic atmosphere to the book. I haven’t read a book like it. Siblings can be annoying, a responsibility, and the best person to team up with – or all of those things at once! These thrilling books are all about brothers and sisters.

Following the publication of the latest book in the series, A Storm of Sisters, we spoke to Michelle about her enchanting stories and the books she loves. Three determined sisters are forbidden to leave their home. The youngest, Charlie, is unpredictable, caring and kind. Betty, the middle sister, is adventurous and daring. Fliss is thoughtful and kind. We’re off now, Granny,” she said, thankful her face was hidden. She had been planning this evening for weeks, feeling only excitement, but now that it had come to carrying it out, she couldn’t quite believe her own disobedience. She hoped her grandmother would put the tremor in her voice down to excitement, and not to the nerves that were buzzing inside her like marsh midges. In this darkly believable world of magic and myth, Betty is a likeable, funny and feisty protagonist, full of courage and determination. This riveting tale of witchcraft, love and betrayal will have readers on the edge of their seats, as the sisters race against time to try to break the curse. Loved by girls who want to adventure, light fantasy in a realistic setting – magical realism I suppose - healthy sibling rivalry, children as problem solvers and adults with feet of clay. Under her mask, Betty gulped. She crossed her fingers within the folds of her cloak and fibbed. “Yes. We’ll stay by the green.” Charlie gave a mischievous, gappy grin between chews. She nodded, her pigtails bobbing. “What kind of adventure?” Armistice Day: A Collection of Remembrance - Spark Interest and Educate Children about Historical Moments Play as Varsha as you try to revive your grandparent's store, avoid scrutiny by the authorities, and find love—all in one summer.

Anyone looking for a book about determination, thrills, love and friendship should definitely read A Pinch of Magic. Michelle Harrison is a very creative author, who had me hanging on every word. Read this book - I promise you will love it. When an ancient curse threatens her life and the lives of her sisters, Betty Widdershins seeks a way to break it. A surprise?” Charlie looked up at her, wide-eyed. “But you told Granny we were only going around the green. You said—”

There is also a story within the story, telling how the curse came to be. This adds another dimension and another fantastic set of characters to enjoy. The three sisters each have unique identities - they all behave and respond in different ways, and there is a strong cast of supporting players, whom readers will enjoy getting to know. The enchanting new story from Michelle Harrison, author of the bestselling Thirteen Treasures trilogy About This Edition ISBN: Who were your favourite writers as a child? Controversial choice nowadays, but the author who made me a reader was Enid Blyton. I adored the Famous Five books, as well as the Malory Towers and St. Clare’s series and read them all over and over again. I loved the idea of children going off on their own and having adventures. I also enjoyed the Gobbolino stories by Ursula Moray Williams, and the humour and darkness of Roald Dahl. Later on it was the Point Horror books and then Christopher Pike who kept me reading throughout my teenage years. I loved being scared, and these were the stories that inspired me to start writing my own.

What Curators Say

Well, mind you are—remember what happened last year.” Granny’s voice softened. “There’s birthday cake for later.”
