King T’Challa is dead. Wakanda has no protector. Queen Ramonda (a well-deserved Oscar-nominated Angela Bassett) is thrust upon the world stage with powerful Western nations hungry for the rare metal vibranium. As these nations detect deposits in the ocean depths, they trigger Namor (Tenoch Huerta) and his legion of undersea warriors to war. Now Princess Shuri (Letitia Wright) must find a way to bury the grief of her brother’s death to save a young scientist (Dominique Thorn) from Namor’s wrath and stop the aquatic destruction of Wakanda.

expect. It is perhaps the latter that demands the most attention and respect, for in the more outward ways the climax is fairly typical of the MCU, presents minimal noise and there are no encode artifacts of note. This is a very capable image, but it's hardly a memorable image. Technically, there's end result is a film that is far less dynamic than the original, clearly missing its star but also a firmer direction and sense of purpose beyond the need But beyond Namor, both the death of Boseman and the expansion of the MCU clearly dictated the progression of a number of other characters - the promotion of Okoye, the introduction of Riri Williams and Shuri's rise as the last remaining member of the Queen of Wakanda's family. Coogler, Feige, hell nobody could hope to incorporate that much into one single movie, particularly not given the current state of affairs with the MCU, which continues to struggle to show a clear sense of direction across its latest Phase(s). Wakanda Forever's ability to mourn Boseman so respectfully, and focus on the characters so intimately, is completely at odds with its later Big Bang nonsense, and as its core members gets respectively promoted into bigger, more VFX-driven suits, the movie loses something in the process, and suddenly reveals its devastating weakness: you just don't care enough about any of these people - particularly not the newly introduced/promoted ones - and certainly not enough to give a damn when their CG superhero alter-egos go to war. As Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett) continues to mourn the death of T’Chala, she’s ready to carry on. However, the same can’t be said for his sister, Shuri (Letitia Wright) who is both sad and angry at his death. His absence creates an issue when Namor (Tenoch Huerta Mejia) shows up in Wakanda with some news. It seems that Vibranium (the material used for Captain America’s shield among other things) has been found in the ocean and the CIA has begun mining it. This puts Namor’s kingdom in danger and he wants Ramonda to send someone after Riri (Dominique Thorne), the student who invented the mining machine, to stop it. If Riri isn’t brought to Namor and ceases mining, the kingdom of Wakanda could be destroyed.

So whilst the Blu-ray's fixed ratio of 2.39:1 is perfectly chosen for the character-driven first act, replete with arguably more refined cinematography, anything designed to be more epic - of which there is plenty here - is clearly better served by the opened up 'IMAX' format, leaving the physical disc at a distinct disadvantage, once again, when it, as the product with the premium price point, should have demanded to be superior in all facets.
