Typically they are children’s books. So, if your local doctor or dentist has a table for kids books, this is a great way to recycle books! 10. Vacation home

Another idea of what to do with unwanted books is to donate them to a doctor’s office. Several of our local doctor and dentist offices have a small “library” table with books you can grab if you want. A great book if you want inspiration and motivation to become more politically active, but also a useful tool to be a better leader in any field. This is a book for supporters of democracy,” he states, and in many ways it is everything a manifesto should be: heartfelt, hectoring, impassioned, rousing.

Places to sell your unwanted books

The book is also hypocritical. He describes how polarisation is used in modern day politics, using the 'us' and 'them' tactic then later in the book calls up young bright voters 'us' to overturn the norm elected by the 'them' older voters. That question is the inspiration behind this book. It's a question regularly posed to Alastair Campbell, not least in reaction to The Rest is Politics, the chart-topping podcast he presents with former Tory Cabinet minister Rory Stewart. His answer, typically, is forthright and impassioned. We cannot afford to stand on the sidelines. If we think things need to change, then we need to change them, and that means getting involved.

Another great option if you don’t want to run all around town with your books is to just donate the whole lot to a local charity. We have several in the area that supports Hospice and other organizations. They will gladly take whatever books you’ve decluttered and sell them in their shops. 16. Donate to Women’s Shelter If you have a book that is falling apart and isn’t worth selling or donating, then recycling it might be your best option. In recent weeks, we’ve had Ian Dunt’s How Westminster Works and Rafael Behr’s Politics: A Survivor’s Guide, both of which adopted the perspective of: politics is broke – here’s how to fix it. Now comes Alastair Campbell’s But What Can I Do?, a book whose entire text should have been printed in italics to give a better immediate sense of the exasperation contained within. Urgent. Positive! Digestible. Hopeful. Doable. See table of contents. An answer to What Can I Do? at the end of every chapter. Campbell, 65, is well-placed to opine on the subject. A former communications director for Tony Blair, he seemed less Machiavellian than, say, Dominic Cummings, and instead determined – often belligerently – to do the right thing by his country, even if half the country was convinced he was wrong. But then, such is politics. Despite quitting in 2003, he’s never really left the field because he can’t. People, he suggests, are always coming up to him, either to blame him for New Labour’s failings, or else to ask what “we” can do to improve things. His book is, in part, an answer.Lastly, this book focuses primarily on The Green New Deal. Given the time that these drills happened, we were in the middle of the democratic primaries. Now with Biden as president-elect, I wish that this book touched on different proposed climate change policies, and how they differ. This could’ve been very valuable to learn how we can incorporate different proposals and compromise. This is just an observation. Here are a few other places doing cool stuff with books. They are not accepting book donations at this time—but if you want to financially support reading programs, here are a couple to look into: United Through Reading and Reading Education Assistance Dogs. I thought the book would launch straight into self help advice about what one can do to help effect change in society. I should have known better! This is Alastair Campbell.

That question is the inspiration behind this book. It's a question regularly posed to Alastair Campbell, not least in reaction to The Rest is Politics, the chart-topping podcast he presents with Rory Stewart. His answer, typically, is forthright and impassioned. We cannot afford to stand on the sidelines. If we think things need to change, then we need to change them, and that means getting involved. I’ve written it in three parts. The first is an analysis of how we got to this state of affairs, with the global financial crisis a key moment, and the 3Ps of the modern age, populism, polarisation and post-truth politics, exploited by opportunistic politicians around the world to change the nature of political debate in a way that threatens to undermine democracy itself. Chapter 5, The Threat of Fascism, underlines how seriously I think we need to take the danger. Chapter 6, on the perils of disengagement, acts as a bridge to Part 2. But the white colonists did it wrong. They did it wrong because embedded in the development of their institutions of power, their institutions of governance, and economies was the exploitation of things that weren’t considered valuable: people, women, plants that weren’t valuable to the wealth, and to the power, and to the vision that those original white male landholders saw for themselves” Our politics is a mess. Leaders who can’t or shouldn’t be allowed to lead. Governments that lie, and seek to undermine our democratic values. Policies that serve the interests of the privileged few. It’s no surprise that so many of us feel frustrated, let down and drawn to ask, ‘ But what can I do?‘ If you're coming to Coles by car, why not take advantage of the 2 hours free parking at Sainsbury's Pioneer Square - just follow the signs for Pioneer Square as you drive into Bicester and park in the multi-storey car park above the supermarket. Come down the travelators, exit Sainsbury's, turn right and follow the pedestrianised walkway to Crown Walk and turn right - and Coles will be right in front of you. You don't need to shop in Sainsbury's to get the free parking! Where to Find UsEvery chapter ends with a section: What Can I Do, with specific, actionable steps. It's not enough to raise the alarm--you have to empower people with information on how they can get involved to solve the problem. This book does this so well that I have just realized with a sigh that I will have to return my library copy and go buy a copy for my permanent use. One example: The financial industry--it is time to take a really close look at who you are supporting with your 401(k).

I was excited about this book because I also feel that our political world in the UK has lost its way. So, this book from a straight talking A.C was going to explain a few things. Although I do appreciate everything this book has to say, I cannot deny how ~boring~ it got after a couple of chapters. Why you might ask? Well.... The first part of the book was ok but not broad enough in its coverage of issues. I expected a lot more for the first part of the book.
