Fresh coffee – Fellow recommends finely-ground espresso-blend (dark-roasted beans). In our test, we used Taylor’s Lazy Sunday (3 Roast, Gentle, and Easy-Going Ground).

We recommend pairing the AeroPress Flow Control Filter Cap with one of the following metal filters: This produces a cold brew concentrate, so you’ll want to add some water or milk to it before drinking.

BREW ESPRESSO-STYLE “HOW-TO”:

Fellow Prismo “Espresso-Style” Tasting Notes: The final cup had a beautiful dark chocolate aroma, nice, sweet, and not too much fruit. The flavor was slightly ‘vinegary’ and quite sharp. You could also feel a rougher texture or graininess— this may have been some grounds escaping the filter. Overall, it was a decent cup of coffee but did not have a flavor profile quite as good as that produced by the other methods Slowly pour 50 grams of water into the AeroPress® Coffee Maker. Start the timer as soon as you start pouring water. It should take 10-20 seconds to add the water. Put this all together and you increase the amount of pressure that the Aeropress uses to replicate what an espresso machine does. Since this is still far from what a machine can do, Fellow recommends heavily stirring the coffee grounds to compensate for the limited pressure. The Prismo screws onto the bottom of an Aeropress as an alternative to the standard filter attachment. The pressure actuated valve uses a single spout and doesn’t release coffee until you plunge. Can the Fellow Prismo get real espresso out of an Aeropress? The Fellow Prismo has become more popular to ensure that no coffee is dripping out of the AeroPress, rather than an espresso gadget. But you know what? We can still do better! I am certain that if you follow the next recipe, you’ll create the amazing crema that you were looking for. The Final Secret Method The Fellow Prismo has been a favorite among AeroPress users for some time, and has built up a good reputation for being the number one pressure actuated valve over recent years . It's an attachment for the Original AeroPress designed to provide a more espresso-like brewing experience, also featuring a reusable stainless steel filter. With the Prismo, you can create a no-drip seal, allowing for full immersion brewing and a more concentrated, full-bodied cup. Thanks to the fine metal mesh filter and its rubber seal, it never leaks. There is no need to invest in it. Many people buy and enjoy Prismo for this reason rather than brewing espresso. You can add a paper filter atop the metal filter, so you still get the clean cup of a classic AeroPress coffee. This double purpose makes it one of the best AeroPress accessories. Coffee Flavor – 4/5 Personally, I favor clarity (so that means paper filtration), but if you like something else, then by all means go ahead. Levy, S. (2015, March 16). Have you had some success or only achieved mediocre results? Or do you know of another sly method you want to share? Value for Money – 3/5 In terms of maintenance, there is nothing to do beyond keeping things clean. Consider washing the whole system with warm soapy water weekly, paying particular attention to cleaning the one-way valve. I never had any issues with the valve clogging, but I could see this happening if you ignored it for months. I have been a coffee geek since I started home roasting more than a decade ago. Since then, coffee has taken me on countless adventures: From ancient coffee ceremonies in Ethiopia to the volcanos of Sumatra. By the way; the Prismo can be used with or without a paper filter – depending on your preference. AEROPRESS FLOW CONTROL FILTER CAP Valve replacement: Replacing the valve of the Fellow Prismo can be done separately and costs less than replacing the entire unit, typically these need replacing every couple of years, depending on usage and other factors. On the other hand, if the valve in the AeroPress needs replacing, you'll have to replace the whole unit because they currently don't offer a spare valve. It’s also too early to tell with regards to the durability of the Aeropress Valve. After 90 seconds of total brew time (I’m using a medium roast here, FWIW), I’m ready to fill my glass.
