Containing peated malt whisky from Caol Ila distillery, the blend is said to feature ‘subtle smoke tempered by a rich, rounded sweetness’, and is bottled at 40.8% abv. Taste: Brown sugar, toasted oak, caramel, apple. Light notes of spice round it out. It tastes almost exactly like a toasted or burnt smore to me. In celebration of the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones, Diageo and HBO have released a series of limited-edition single malt whiskies, each paired with one of the iconic Houses of Westeros. For over 200 years Lagavulin has been crafted on the shores of Islay. Even though the distillery’s output is modest compared to some of its counterparts on the mainland, Lagavulin is easily one of the most iconic single malt whiskies in the world. Its whisky is made with the same calculation and tenacity employed by the Lannister’s in their rise to conquer the Iron Throne. This Lagavulin is a roaring whisky that recalls the Lannister’s riches and is best served neat or with a drop of water.Johnnie Walker A Song of Ice features single malts from Clynelish, one of Scotland’s most northern distilleries, and exudes a crisp, clean taste like the unforgiving force of ice that shapes mountains and stops rivers. The new blend has an ABV of 40.2% and the bottle design evokes an icy setting with frosted blue and gray colors inspired by the North, known for its cold winters and frozen landscapes. Johnnie Walker A Song of Fire is rich and spicy, boasting flavors of subtle smoke from the peated malts of the Caol Ila distillery with an ABV of 40.8%. Inspired by the dragons of House Targaryen, feared for their fire breathing, the bottle design evokes a fiery setting with deep-red colors. Palate: More vanilla again, this time paired with cinnamon and almond. Hints of fresh cherry and cut oak heat. In celebration of the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones, Diageo and HBO have released a series of limited-edition single malt whiskies, each paired with one of the iconic Houses of Westeros. House Greyjoy rules the Iron Islands and worships the Drowned God. Talisker was a natural fit for House Greyjoy as this single malt is distilled in one of the most remote and rugged areas of Scotland, the Isle of Skye. The layered flavors and the maritime character of the Talisker Select Reserve are the result of its wave-battered shores and the maturation in heavily charred and refill casks.

Game of Thrones, DIAGEO and HBO are also releasing a limited-edition collection of single malt scotch whiskies inspired by the show. House Tully located at Riverrun, rules as the lord of the River lands. The power of water flows through both House Tully and The Singleton Glendullan Select as it is made on the banks of the River Fiddich in the wooded hills of Dufftown. Here they harnessed the water that flowed through the land utilizing a water wheel to power the entire distillery.White Walker is also chill-filtered and said to be best served cold. Chill filtered means that the whisky was set to a very low temperature, in this case 1.5* Celsius, and passed through filters. When whisky get very cold it has a tendency to become cloudy due to particles clumping together. Chill filtering ensures that when a whisky spends time in a freezer, it won’t come out hazy. Bottle Johnnie Walker A Song of Fire meanwhile, is inspired by the dragons commanded by Daenerys Targaryen, also known as the ‘Mother of Dragons’.

Whisky was simply a commodity offered by John Walker and his grocery store. However, after his death in 1857, Alexander Walker took over and transformed it into a booming business. A law passed in 1860 further softened the laws around scotch, and Alexander Walker took advantage. Whisky sales became 90% of their sales in comparison to the previous 8% or so under his father. To those unaware of GoT’s White Walkers, they are an undead army that lives “north of the wall”. They have icy blue eyes, use spears and weapons forged with ice, and plan to kill everything and turn the world into the undead army. The show, based on the Song of Ice and Fire fantasy novels by George R. R. Martin, followed the highs and lows of the Great Houses as they battle for the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms. GAME OF THRONES | "Six Kingdoms" Mortlach | The Final Realm | Single Malt Scotch Whisky Aged 15 Years Johnnie Walker A Song of Fire is rich and spicy, boasting flavors of subtle smoke from the peated malts of the Caol Ila distillery with an ABV of 40.8%. Inspired by the dragons of House Targaryen, feared for their fire breathing, the bottle design evokes a fiery setting with deep-red colors.” This whisky is supposed to evoke the idea of being around dragons by its use of Caol Ila in the blend. A workhorse distillery that makes up the main peaty component of all standard Johnny Walker blends, but seems to be all but absent from this blend. I was hoping for a massive peat-forward blend that poured like a bonfire, but as you’ll see below, it was barely a match strike.

GoT White Walker Details

Whether in conflict or harmony, this is a tale of two great houses represented by two ancient creatures. One is a house descended from the First Men. Rulers of the North and builders of the wall, they thrive in the icy-cold climate of the Direwolf. The other, a noble family of Valyrian descent and the first royal house of the Seven Kingdoms. Fire courses through their veins and is made flesh in the form of their dragons. When the bottle reaches temperatures below freezing, the bottle undergoes some changes. The eyes of the walking man logo become icy blue. The side of the bottle features the message “WINTER IS HERE”, and some extra icy blue slash marks are added to the bottle.
