It is important to know how many autistic people there are for several reasons, including helping to provide support, as well as showing the sheer number and diversity of autistic people. This is also called “autism prevalence”. It is an estimate of how many autistic people there are in the UK. It is not the same as the number of autistic people who have a diagnosis and many autistic people might not have been identified or even know yet themselves. As autism understanding has grown, the estimated prevalence has also changed. Does your child respond when you call his or her name? I liked this book because the character and what happens to her describes me a lot - for example having her own little world to escape to when things get too much, and her anxiety about things which I struggle with a lot too but I am also autistic. Wel done all. We need more books like this to promote understanding that we are all different in our own way and that is ok as it makes for an interesting world. How awful would it be if we were all the same? The score indicates medium risk. This means you should take your child to his or her doctor for a follow-up screening. You can also seek early intervention services for your child. Is your child interested in other children? ( For Example, does your child watch other children, smile at them, or go to them?) Answer 8

Reading how life is with Autism as a teenager from an inside perspective is priceless. I've always said the best way to understand Autistic people is to talk to them and let them tell how it is. M does that in this book. Avoiding childhood vaccinations can place your child and others in danger of catching and spreading serious diseases, including whooping cough (pertussis), measles or mumps. Risk factors M is for Autism is a book about a teenage girl with Autism written by teenage girls with Autism. This is an amazing book that shares daily trials of a girl with autism to give us a realistic understanding of what she feels and is trying to deal with. If you've ever wondered about the struggle someone with autism is dealing with, take a peek into the thoughts of M. People with Asperger's do not have the same learning disabilities that many people with autism have, but they might have a specific learning difficulty. The Limpsfield girls certainly found their voice and it has all the urgency, immediacy and sheer vibrancy of teenage life... I hope that M's journey will help girls with autism making that same journey through their early teen years to find themselves and believe in themselves as well as help others understand and believe in them. Anxiety is a real difficulty for many autistic adults, particularly in social situations or when facing change. It can affect a person psychologically and physically and impact quality of life for autistic people and their families. It is very important that autistic people learn to recognise their triggers and find coping mechanisms to help reduce their anxiety. However, many autistic peoplehave difficulty recognising and regulating their emotions. Over one third of autistic people have serious mental health issues and too many autistic people are being failed by mental health services. Does your child understand when you tell him or her to do something? ( For Example, if you don't point, can your child understand “put the book on the chair” or “bring me the blanket”?) Answer 18 A very brief book (which I read cover to cover in 35 minutes) which gives a glimpse into the life of an autistic girl and how she copes with day to day life and the things which us NT people take for granted.

Change to routine can also be very distressing for autistic people and make them very anxious. It could be having to adjust to big events like Christmas or changing schools, facing uncertainty at work, or something simpler likea bus detourthat can trigger their anxiety. We set up the forum because there is so much energy coming forward now from parents, academics, children and young people’s mental health services (Camhs), and teachers, that we’re missing identifying this group of girls,” said Professor Barry Carpenter, chair of the forum. taking things very literally – for example, you may not understand sarcasm or phrases like "break a leg" Many autistic people have intense and highly focused interests, often from a fairly young age. These can change over time or be lifelong. Autistic people can become experts in their special interests and often like to share their knowledge. A stereotypical example is trains but that is one of many. Greta Thunberg's intense interest, for example,is protecting the environment.
