Description

Mathematics Analysis and Approaches or the Applications and Interpretation syllabi will be accepted at higher level, but Analysis and Approaches is preferred.

These foundation-level maths mats are designed to support young learners as they acquire and develop their numeracy skills. These sheets include tools to help with counting, number bonds, simple shapes and maths vocabulary. They are also helpful for students who are learning English as an additional language. How can I support my child's counting skills? The first question on the test is multiple choice and contains ten parts, each worth four marks. Marks are given solely for the correct answers, though you are encouraged to show any working out. Questions 2–6 are longer questions, each worth 15 marks, and again, you will need to show your working. Part marks are available for the longer questions. You should attempt four questions from 2–6, the selection depending on the degree for which you are applying as above. Students complete four modules across the year – two compulsory and two elective modules. Compulsory modules: Further credit cannot be gained by attempting questions other than those appropriate to the degree applied for.

The way that candidates access the questions is changing for October 2023. Candidates will see the questions on a computer screen. Candidates will write their responses in a paper answer booklet, which will be scanned by their test centre. The MAT syllabus is based on the first year of A level Maths, and a few topics from the fourth term of A level Maths which we think students will have covered by the time of the test. Candidates should attempt five of the six questions, depending on the degree for which they are applying.

Mathematics & Computer Science, Computer Science, Computer Science & Philosophy applicants should attempt questions 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6 Teaching is in the language of your host country, so you will need to reach an acceptable proficiency in the relevant language before you go. Free language classes are available at the College to help you prepare. Availability If for any reason your school or college cannot apply for centre authorisation or you are no longer in education, please read the information below on taking your test at an open centre. The Notes for the past papers are intended for candidates using the past papers to prepare for MAT 2021. They mostly refer to syllabus changes. Note that there are 18 papers listed below, which is far more than we would expect any applicant to attempt. Details of any access arrangements you require (together with evidence to support your request unless your centre already has this information).Remember to ensure you are registered for the test by 29 September, even if you feel exceptional circumstances may mean there is a risk you will not be able take it. Mathematics / Mathematics & Statistics, Mathematics & Philosophy applicants should attempt questions 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5

The MAT aims to test the depth of mathematical understanding of a student in the fourth term of their A-levels (or equivalent) rather than a breadth of knowledge. It is set with the aim of being approachable by all students, including those without Further Mathematics A-level, and those from other educational systems (e.g. Baccalaureate and Scottish Highers). Where possible, the additional test will be hosted by schools or colleges. Where necessary, remote invigilation will be arranged at home. The additional test will be made available for printing just before the start of the test on 14 November. The additional test will be administered entirely by the University of Oxford. In collaboration with the Oxford Mathematical Institute, please read the following steps you will need to take. I failed my maths GCSEs and I can't even do simple maths, but (my son) has taught me times tables, algebra, and how to simplify and expand. I have learnt more maths from him in two weeks than I learnt my whole school years."

Give AI a Try!

A MyMaths impact study found 100% of teachers saw a time-saving benefit from MyMaths, with most seeing a reduction in time spent planning and marking homework, allowing them to focus more time on interventions, one-to-one teaching and other tasks. Your fee is based on the year you enter the College, not your year of study. This means that if you repeat a year or resume your studies after an interruption, your fees will only increase by the amount linked to inflation. The MAT is marked by University of Oxford graduate students. For the multiple-choice questions, there are no marks available for working out. For the long questions, our markers will look carefully at what you've written and give you an appropriate number of marks following an agreed mark scheme. The mathematical content of the MAT, in terms of the syllabus and the format of the test, is unchanged for 2023. Our minimum STEP offer is a Grade 2 in either the STEP II or STEP III papers. Both the grade and the number of papers may be increased in some cases.
