Description

This book reminds me of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills (or any Real Housewives show). A handful of rich women with their rich husbands and all their drama and problems… but the thriller version. Olivia, Karen and Shannon are rich housewives (well Karen actually does work) and have been frequenting the same exclusive Salon (called Glow Salon) for years that is owned by Jenny. Shannon is now newly divorced but her ex's new young wife, Crystal soon begins to go to the same Salon. Jenny seems to know all their secrets....and well one of them dies...as per the title....who is it? It's hard to make out and the puzzle slowly comes together as Jenny's interrogation by the police begins right at the start of the book. Shannon-divorced when her husband met a younger woman. Of course, she is angry, hurt, and bitter. On top of that her ex-husband's new wife is in her social circle. Jenny owns a salon that all of the women are serviced at. Just like a bartender or cab driver, she’s privy to plenty of tantalizing secrets. You won’t want to put this book down. It’s intriguing and draws emotions of suspense and curiosity. I loved this read and encourage everyone to grab it as your next book.

To say I was beyond stoked when I got this ARC is an understatement. I ended up reading this with two of my best bookstagram gal pals and we devoured this! I think it took us roughly 24 hours to finish and this book did not disappoint. I absolutely love reading about spoiled, wealthy, bratty women and Jeneva delivered the best of the worst of these ladies. I loved that everything revolved around a beauty bar and loved that each chapter was told from someone else's perspective. At the beginning I struggled with the chapters - they are told from a different person's perspective and little clues are given as to who's head we are inside, but you have to pay attention to know who it is. I'll be honest, I hated this at first, but it grew on me and I ended up loving solving the tiny mystery at the beginning of each chapter.

A fair few of the characters weren’t exactly likeable, but I felt like that fit well with the vibe of the story and provided enough ‘motives’ to keep me guessing who the murderer and murdered characters were.

The Girl of Sugar Beach is must-see TV—a riveting, true-life mystery that unfolds over twelve weeks and centers on a fascinating question: Did Grace Sebold murder her boyfriend, Julian, while on a Spring Break vacation, or is she a victim of circumstance and poor police work? Grace has spent the last ten years in a St. Lucian prison, and reaches out to filmmaker Sidney Ryan in a last, desperate attempt to prove her innocence. McManus was heavily involved in the process of adapting the novel throughout; she provided input to all the scripts and episodes, but still allowed the writers free rein. [12] McManus stated that her main objective was to keep her characters' emotional cores intact. [13] In an interview, Madrona was asked if the series would stay faithful to its source material; he responded by saying, "We've been faithful to the spirit of the story and the themes and the characters, but also trying to add some little twists and turns here and there so we can surprise readers of the book." Madrona found the idea of a single season that tells a complete story while solving the show's biggest mystery very satisfying. He also claimed that after a season, viewers often lost interest in a show and stopped watching. Because of this, the series reveals who killed Simon, but many other questions are left unanswered at the end of the first season. [14] Consider the ethical dilemmas presented in the book, such as the characters’ moral choices or the consequences of their actions. How did the characters grapple with these dilemmas, and what impact did their decisions have on the plot and the resolution of the mystery? Examine the use of red herrings or false leads in the book. Were there any clues or plot points that misled you or made you suspect the wrong character? How did the author use misdirection to heighten the suspense and keep you guessing?I listened to the audiobook of this and thought all of the narrators did a great job. Had I read this, I don't think that I would have enjoyed this novel half as much. You just have to suspend all disbelief and simply go with it. The ending was pretty spectacular, though. But even then, there were parts I loved, and there were parts I was like - fine, if we really have to go there. 🙄

One Of Us Is Dead consists of a bunch of rich, catty, manipulative women who I didn’t care much about. I’m at the age where I try to stay away from the drama, let alone read about it. Jennyowns Glow, the most exclusive salon in town. Jenny knows all her clients’ secrets and darkest desires. But will she ever tell? I binged this audiobook in one go, and would definitely recommend listening to the audio copy if possible. The full cast of narrators ( Andi Arndt, Hillary Huber, Elizabeth Evans, Brittany Pressley, and Cassandra Campbell) did an amazing job of bringing this story to life.Sara Thompson as Vanessa Clark, Addy's best friend and TJ's girlfriend (season 2, recurring season 1) All these women have secrets. All want to protect their secrets. How far will anyone go to protect their secret. That is the question. I am a huge fan of rich-person drama, so I was sold right from the description. Centered around the gossip of a hair salon? What a great setting.

Because of this exclusivity and frequency of visits, Jenny has come to know her clients very, very well. Almost too well for her tastes. Along with her assistant, Jenny has become quite versed in navigating the ups-and-downs of her clients toxic relationships. Crystal has stepped into Shannon’s old shoes. A young, innocent Texan girl, she simply has no idea what she’s up against ... It was fun having a different narrator for each perspective. It felt like I was really getting to know these characters and they are twisted. Everyone was hiding something. Everyone knew things they shouldn't. They were just all up in each others business. It was captivating.

Season 2 impressed earlier in the year but the latest episodes finally landed on Netflix on Wednesday, November 16th 2022, encouraging audiences to ask questions about the season finale. The ending definitely took me for a ride! So much happened and I had so many theories on who did it! If you're looking for something dramatic with a bit of Suspense thrown in, definitely keep this on your radar! Beauty is only skin deep for these women! Jenny’s exclusive salon, Glow requires a membership…but all chairs are booked! I enjoyed listening to this book. It was pure fun with the realization that there are women like those depicted in the book. Discuss the use of multiple perspectives or narrators in the book. How did this affect your understanding of the story and the characters? Did it add to the suspense or make the mystery more challenging to solve?
