To his credit, the snot-faced kindred was a better fighter than the rest of his stooges. The arrogant boy kept clear of Breaker, but his mounting frustrations were evident at his inability to draw near enough for a fatal strike. All of that makes the story feel epic in scope in a way that horror seldom is. And most of what is truly horrible in this story isn’t the monsters. It’s all the endless betrayals. It feels like the foundations of Remy’s world get pulled out from under him over and over as he keeps learning that under the corruption of everything if you scrape it away there’s yet another layer of, you guessed it, rot and corruption. Nothing he thinks he knows turns out to have any bearing on any truth. Unlikely alliances, simmering chemistry, and plenty of fight scenes Silver Under Nightfall is a unique delight. Sometimes you just need some fresh blood, someone to challenge everything we’ve ever known, to show us our true circumstances. Chupeco’s balance of stakes from the personal all the way to the larger world kept me reading past when I said I’d stop. There were moments I laughed aloud – something that happens more rarely these days – all the way to steaminess, tension, and fear. As you all probably know by now, Rin Chupeco is one of my absolute all-time favorite authors. The Bone Witch trilogy was practically formative reading for me. Not to mention, The Never-Tilting World and The Ever-Cruel Kingdom both honestly spoke to me on a deep, almost spiritual level. So of course I had to read Rin Chupeco’s first venture into the adult genre, Silver Under Nightfall. After all, this isn’t just an ordinary adult debut. It’s an adult debut about vampires. Featuring a throuple, which Rin has described as “two vampires find a vampire hunter in the trash and take them in”.Gallagher, Diana (2014-08-05). They describe themself as a pansexual, liberal atheist. [4] Chupeco is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns. [6] [7] Why won’t you let me kill you?” she cried out as petulantly as a child. A vessel had been severed somewhere behind her right iris, and from that eye, blood cried down, hardened, and clotted. As they navigate the dangerous terrain and face new threats, Remy develops complicated feelings for the couple. With each passing day, he begins to question everything he thought he knew about vampires, including the story behind his own family legacy. Hi! The vampire grabbed at the links and snapped them with a deft twist. With nothing else to keep it moored, the knife flew on, disappearing swiftly into the darkness. Which of you turned her?” There were no coincidences when vampires were involved. His stomach churned at what they must have done, at what her final hours had been like at their hands, and his blood was up, exhilarated, ready to let. He hadn’t wanted to kill Lady Daneira, but now he was itching for a massacre. But this vampire noble had carried with him the very faintest of fragrances, as unnerving as it was unfamiliar. As keen as Remy’s nose was, it was unlike anything he’d ever smelled.
