Thanks! Do! I would also recommend her book called Every Last Secret. I LOVED that one. Even more than this one. It was all kinds of messed up. The author. By all accounts, Ms. Torre seems to be as friendly to readers and fellow authors as she is versatile in her craft. As we all know, thrillers are notorious for having unlikeable characters. And they are also notorious for manipulating the narrative to generate. The same happened with this book. We all know that these people tip more towards the bad side, yet we vouch for them. And we silently pray for the truth to not come out. Defense attorney Robert Kavin's son was victim number six of a serial killer who preys on seventeen year old, white, rich, popular, athletic young men. Each teenager was kidnapped, tortured over a six-eight week period, abused in all ways, and then killed, their bodies dumped where they can be found. As the story starts, victim number seven, about the time that his body should be found, stumbles home to his family mansion, the only boy to live through his kidnapping. After the boy identifies teacher, Randall Thompson, as his kidnapper, Kavin jumps in to defend Thompson, pro bono.

Review: The Good Lie (A.R. Torre) – A Novel Glimpse Review: The Good Lie (A.R. Torre) – A Novel Glimpse

But there’s something off from the start and she can’t quite pinpoint it. She has to find her way through the mess, as her relationship with Robert Kavin is getting more intimate. There is an in-depth discussion on violent people and their thought processes. How their childhood affects human behavior was an interesting add-on. And their urges were intriguing, albeit a little terrifying. It highlights the grey area of human nature and that people can’t be simply put in good or bad areas. A romance subplot It’s so rare that we get a clever story with unexpected revelations that don’t feel completely out of place once you get to them. When you hear me say I’m in a mood for a good thriller, usually something like this is what I have in mind. In February 2015, the Foundation for Lost Boys and Girls of Sudan, Inc., acting on behalf of 54 Sudanese refugees, filed a lawsuit in Georgia against writer Margaret Nagle, Alcon Entertainment and Imagine Entertainment. The suit claimed that the refugees were joint authors of the stories they had told Nagle in interviews that she had recorded and used to write the story. It also asserted that a joint venture agreement had been breached, with fraud and other issues arising from a promise of compensation from a producer. And let’s talk about this book: the story starts with a young 17 years old Scott Harden’s escape from his captivity. He reaches to his home, injured, but he was the first boy who got away from BH Killer who has already kidnapped, tortured, killed brutally six young boys! Scott tells the authorities the killer is Randall Thompson, a high school science teacher. Multiple POVs played their role very well, building up the tension and then leaving the readers with more questions than answers by the end of every chapter.

Gwen was mostly relatable, with a couple of moments that made me thing – oh-oh. Well, that wasn’t very nice.Seven kidnappings but six dead young boys. The story begins with Scott Harden returning safe to his home after being sequestrated by a man, high school teacher, Randall Thompson. The more the teenager recounted what had happened to him at the press conferences and the policemen, the more confident his mother was that he was withholding much of the truth. But what? And why? I read 20% of this book the first night and then finished it the next day. This story grabbed me and wouldn't let go. I managed to figure out some things but I was so wrong on a lot of them. It's a clever story with smart characters who don't always get it right. I'm totally satisfied with this book, the first I read by A. R. Torre (I know, I'm late to the party!). The writing flowed easily, the story was fast paced and the plot mixed mystery with a bit of romance. Don't expect an unpredictable final twist, but you shouldn't be disappointed either. Let's just say I was thoroughly enthralled from the start and that I highly recommend to read it as soon as you can!

The Good Lie was screened in the Special Presentations section of the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival [6] before being released on October 3, 2014. Another major screening was held by the Greenwich International Film Festival on October 22, 2014, for the benefit of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF. [7] Plot [ edit ] Ever since I was first introduced to A.R. Torre, I've been hooked on her writing, and this was another fascinating premise and fast-paced ride! I loved the aspects of tortured and dangerous will-they-won't-they love she included as part of the plot and the narrative certainly pointed every which way toward the potential BH Killer! I changed my mind several times while reading, and the twists were unexpected to say the least! One in particular towards the end caught me completely off guard and while it proved to be a bit of a fake out, got my blood pumping! As a city, they stopped caring because they were emotionally exhausted from the mourning. They started to look the other way, grew blind to missing-person posters and bored with the huge rewards and tearful pleas from the families. There were a couple discrepancies I had with the ending (without spoiling, I can’t say), but otherwise it was a fascinating and engrossing read! I would highly recommend this to anyone who loves a great thriller! 😄
