She also learns that she is a pawn in a larger game and that other factions place a great value on her ability to see into the history of objects. Ophelia must navigate this dangerous world, all while keeping her true motives hidden from those around her. The mirror visitor series has created such a unique world as I have rarely read before. You are thrown right into the middle of Ophelia's life at the beginning and it is a wild roller coaster ride with all sorts of whimsical, yet somehow lovable characters. Especially all their little quirks like Thorn's dice or Ophelia's scarf or their powers made this interesting. The world can be a little difficult to understand at times, but once you get the hang of it, the author's imagination gives the reader great pleasure. It is one of the most enjoyable series I have read and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a well executed fantasy story. Ophelia’s role is to spy on the other Arks for Thorn’s family and discover what they are keeping secret. In an effort to protect her own family and find out the truth about her new spouse, she unwillingly agrees to the duty, but she subsequently regrets it. When Ophelia becomes betrothed to Thorn, a member of the fierce and mysterious Dragon clan, she is forced to leave her home and navigate the dangerous politics of the other clans at the Pole. a b "Par ici les sortilèges Rencontre avec Christelle Dabos". She’s strong, stoic and independent in her own way and that’s more highlighted in book two.

At first she found the writing to be an escape, then found that it was helping her to reconstruct herself. As she kept going, she discovered her ‘second nature’. She also joined an online author community called Silver Plume that gave her encouragement. They were so supportive that she decided to take up her first challenge in literature, to enter a contest for youth novels written for the first time and did quite well! In 2013, she won the Gallimard-RTL-Télérama prize for first youth novel, for A Winter's Promise, the first volume of her Mirror Visitor quartet. [3] The title of the series ( La Passe-miroir in French) is inspired by Le Passe-muraille, a literary work by the French writer Marcel Aymé. You’ll travel with pioneers and the Lewis and Clark Expedition as they travel west meeting Native Americans and the land that soon would become their home.I respect your opinion and I do agree with you: this book (just like any other) is not for everyone, but I couldn’t leave without saying anything. Thorn’s family sees Ophelia with mistrust and contempt when she visits the Ark of the Pole. She immediately discovers that there are dark intrigues at play, political tensions, and the fact that she was chosen specifically. The main character of Christelle Dabos’ young adult fantasy novel “A Winter’s Promise” is Ophelia, a member of the Anima clan with the power to learn an object’s history just by touching it. Family and relationships – The novel is mostly focused on family and relationships, and the author explores their complexities, particularly the tension between duty and love.
